AU Creation Suggetions? (Medieval TF2 AU)
So... for the past couple months, I've been working on and off on a Sniper Fairytale AU bot, which would take place sometime during the medieval or renaissance era. It was pretty easy to make Sniper an archer and make some adjustments to his outfit and slight adjustments to his backstory. (Picture of this bot is concept art I made! I used gmod to get the picture of the background, it's from one of the medieval mode maps.)
But I'm struggling to come up with ideas for the other mercs. Specifically with weapon ideas (although backstory ideas are welcome as well!) I'm even willing to hear ideas on the mercs I have a clearer picture of already
Main thing to keep in mind is there have been lore adjustments, mainly lack of a RED and BLU conflict. Instead, the mercs are a traveling group of sorts who take on odd jobs. (Which means each merc has their reasons for staying in the group, or not kicking certain members out)
Here's what I have for each one as of now!
Scout: I swapped his baseball bat out and swapped it for a spiked wooden club, Boston basher, basically. I was surprised with how little adjustment he needed.
Soldier: All he has is a shovel. I do like the idea that's he's just a crazed, lead poisoned lunatic who attacks people with a shovel, it's not too far off from his original counterpart. But I feel like maybe more can be done with him?
Pyro: Most of their weapons wouldn't exist at all, so I can't even give them a lighter or something. And the closet thing I could think of for an outfit was a mask and a hooded cloak. My backstory? Pyro just kinda follows the group around and seems to somehow come back no matter how much certain members may try to get rid of them. Most of the group has no reason to let Pyro stick around due to being a pyromaniac and being feared by most members, so I figured them just somehow Pyro always managing to find their way back to the group would be funny, while also allowing them to be there.
Demoman: Making Demoman into Demoknight seems like a good choice imo. But maybe there's still some explosive weapons he could have that would at least somewhat fit the time period?
Heavy: I have no clue
Engineer: I have even less of a clue, especially since Engineer's stuff is centered around technology.
Medic: Ofc he can still be a doctor, but I may give him some sort of magical element like healing potions or something. Or he could just be a regular, medieval doctor and the knowledge that comes with it (like bloodletting and balancing humors or sm).
Sniper: Easy, he's a traveling archer who left home to go see the world and stumbles his way into the group. A bow and arrow is easy, he can even keep most of his other things like his knives or... the jarate (hey, it helps put out Pyro's fires).
Spy: Spy I am also not sure on what to do with. Maybe he has invisibility potions? Although he can keep the butterfly knife, some sources say those have existed for quite a while.
Part of my reason for asking this is because I thought it would be fun if this was some sort of community thing? It would be kind of cool if I had other people build off this idea, making their own bots, and we end up with a whole AU out of it! I want all the ideas, even if they're silly ones. Or even just thoughts in this idea in general
