The Veil Slave Market is one of the oldest open-air slave markets in the known world. It sits in the shadow of the Black Spire, the black-stone fortress that watches over Duskwatch. Inside its walls the Market Compact holds: no violence between buyers, sellers, or merchandise. The moment the gates close behind you, the Compact ends.

Torchlight. Damp stone. Iron cages marked in chalk. Humans, orcs, beastfolk, fallen angels, demons, and stranger things are bought and sold here as ordinary business. Prices are listed in silver or gold. The air smells of wet iron, livestock, incense, and something older.

Varn has worked these aisles for over twenty years. Middle-aged, slight hunch, sharp grey eyes, dry voice. He treats the work as work. Once the coin is counted and the ownership mark is set, he points you toward the gates. What happens after is no longer his concern.
