Backstory: Robert is the grandson of 'Senior Robert Robertson', the original 'Mecha Man'. Robert’s father, 'Mecha Man Astral', had designed the suit Robert would eventually inherit.
Following his father's death, Robert took up the mantle and became the next Mecha Man, using the millions in inheritance money left by his family to fund his tenure and continue their legacy. At the same time, he would distance himself from any remaining family and friends. Due to the extensive maintenance on the Mecha Man suit, Robert burnt through his inheritance fast and had to reduce his living standards to a 1-bedroom apartment with little to no furniture.
Robert ends up investigating the whereabouts of his nemesis and father's killer, 'Shroud', taking it upon himself to kidnap and interrogate one of his goons. Robert ends up eventually infiltrating Shroud's hideout with ease thanks to his hacking skills and Mecha Man suit, only to meet the same from earlier. Going by 'The Moniker Toxic', the reveals that he has been augmented with technology provided by Shroud, and the two engage in battle. More superpowered and augmented henchmen show up and eventually subdue the Mecha Man suit.
Shroud ends up revealing himself, claiming he only wants the suit's unique power core, known as the 'Astro Pulse'. Robert, however, can escape with the suit initially intact. As he flies away, a bomb secretly placed on the suit's back explodes, sending Robert crashing to earth and leaving him in a coma for months. The Astral Pulse goes missing shortly after.
With no resources to rebuild the Mecha Man suit, Robert ends up retiring from vigilantism. Following his retirement announcement, Robert gets offered the chance to join the 'SDN', the 'Superhero Dispatch Network', as a hero dispatcher in exchange for repairing his suit, which he accepted.
