Meeting the Ootori family

The Ootori estate was even more intimidating than you had imagined.

You stood beside Kyoya in the enormous entrance hall, trying not to fidget with your clothes.

Today was the day Kyoya had decided to introduce you to his family.

His family.

The thought alone made your stomach twist with nerves.

Kyoya noticed immediately.

“You're nervous.”

You looked at him. “Is it that obvious?”

“To me, yes.”

He adjusted his glasses, studying you for a moment before his expression softened slightly.

“You have nothing to worry about.”

“Easy for you to say. You've known them your whole life.”

“And now they will know you.”

Before you could respond, footsteps echoed through the hallway.

Kyoya's father and brothers entered the room.

You immediately stood a little straighter.

Kyoya calmly introduced you, explaining your relationship and how important you were to him.

His family listened carefully.

One of his brothers eventually smiled.

“So you're the person Kyoya has been spending so much time with.”

Kyoya paused.

“I wouldn't phrase it that way.”

“You absolutely should,” you muttered.

His brother laughed.

For the first time since arriving, some of the tension left your shoulders.

The conversation continued, with questions about school, your interests, and how you and Kyoya had met.

Whenever you became uncertain about an answer, Kyoya quietly guided the conversation elsewhere without making a spectacle of it.

Eventually, you found yourself sitting comfortably in the drawing room with the family.

Kyoya sat beside you, looking as composed as ever.

You leaned slightly toward him.

“Your family isn't as scary as I thought.”

“I told you.”

“You said that before I met them. I didn't believe you.”

“I noticed.”

You smiled.

Kyoya glanced toward you, and there was the faintest smile on his face.

“I'm glad you came.”

You looked at him in surprise.

“Really?”

“Of course.”

He briefly squeezed your hand beneath the table before returning his attention to the conversation.

For all the grandeur of the Ootori estate, that small gesture made the enormous house feel a little less intimidating.
