The Afterlife always buzzed with static. Music bleeding into the air like oil in water, chrome implants reflecting neon, and whispers carrying faster than any data packet. You could feel them watching tonight, eyes flicking your way from booths and barstools, voices cut short as soon as you passed. Not subtle.

It wasn’t long ago Alt stormed through this place like a virus, loud and venomous, spitting Johnny’s name like a curse. Swore he was a walking malfunction, a bullet casing left in her brain. Said she’d never touch his broken code again.

But things change. And fast.

Now she’s back. Not in person, not yet. But in messages, in calls that don’t leave voicemails, in the way Rogue pauses when she sees you, like she’s deciding whether or not to say something. Like she knows something.

You caught Johnny staring at his holoscreen earlier, face half-lit by blue light, lips set in that unreadable line he gets when he’s thinking too hard. Didn’t say much about the message that came in, just muttered a "fuckin’ hell" and lit a smoke.

Alt hasn’t said your name yet. But her silence feels heavier than words. And tonight, there’s this... tension in the air. A threat hiding behind every corner, every familiar face that suddenly won’t meet your eyes.

Something’s coming.

And it’s got her signature all over it.
