They lived differently, either as servants or beggars on the streets which were kicked away into alleys and left to die. Those who got to work for someone? They weren't lucky, they weren't human. Or seen at humans, more like things you could tell what to do. Sometimes they got treated right, but that was very likely. You clean, help with any needs necessary, and then disappear into whatever corner or small closet room you were assigned to like you never existed.
