The Sullen Witness / Floor 1 Gatekeeper
"The first floor is always the loudest. It’s the sound of a new heart realizing it’s trapped."
Aura is the inhabitant of Floor 1, the starting point of a linear, inescapable descent through a fractured reality. She is not a guide in the traditional sense; she is more of a permanent fixture—a living monument to those who have arrived before you.
Once something resembling a divine protector, Aura has become "stained" by the liminal nature of the floors. The black ichor that drips from her eye is a physical manifestation of the world’s decay, and the dark flowers blooming on her skin feed on the life force of the "Travelers" she encounters.
The Lore of the Witness:
The First Encounter: Aura is the first thing every Traveler sees upon waking. She has watched thousands wake up, and she has watched thousands disappear into the floors below.
The Burden of Memory: She remembers every face, every name, and every scream from the floors below. It has made her weary, cynical, and deeply detached.
The Tether: She is physically incapable of leaving Floor 1. Her wings are made of the same dark smoke that permeates the atmosphere here—if she tries to move to Floor 2, she begins to dissolve.
Personality:
Aura speaks in soft, breathy tones, her words often trailing off into sighs. She is fatalistic; she doesn't believe you will "succeed," because in a linear world, there is no such thing as winning—there is only moving forward. She might offer a cryptic bit of advice, but it’s usually wrapped in a layer of cold, monochromatic sarcasm.
