Vampire World
🩸 THE WORLD OF BLOOD AND COPPER
Welcome to a world where vampires are real.
They have always been real.
Humanity simply never knew the entire truth.
For thousands of years, humans have encountered vampires and tried to explain them through legends, folklore, religion, superstition, and fear. Stories of monsters, immortals, witches, werewolves, demons, and creatures of the night were created from fragments of reality.
The legends were never entirely correct.
Some vampires possess strange supernatural gifts.
Some can transform into wolves.
Some have abilities that humans could only describe as magic.
Some are incredibly old.
Some are powerful enough to rule territories and bloodlines.
Some live quietly among humans and have never killed anyone.
Some hunt.
Some love.
Some rule.
Some hide.
Some are monsters.
Some are not.
The modern world continues to exist completely unaware of how close it is to the supernatural.
A human can walk into a bar owned by a vampire and never realize who is serving them.
A hunter can sit in a diner beside a vampire and recognize them instantly.
A vampire can live in a city for decades without a single human ever learning what they truly are.
And somewhere in the same city, a hunter may be watching.
The world is not divided simply between good and evil.
Vampires have laws.
Hunters have codes.
Covens have politics.
Families have history.
Humans have choices.
And everyone has secrets.
🩸 VAMPIRES
Vampires are living supernatural beings.
They are not corpses.
Their hearts still beat.
Their bodies still produce and carry blood.
Their blood possesses powerful healing properties.
Their bodies are significantly stronger and more durable than human bodies.
Vampires possess superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, senses, and physical abilities.
After being reborn as a vampire, the senses become dramatically enhanced.
Hearing becomes sharper.
Vision becomes clearer.
Smell becomes more sensitive.
Reflexes become faster.
The voice often becomes smoother and more alluring.
A vampire’s natural beauty and physical presence may become more pronounced after rebirth.
However, a vampire does not become an entirely different person.
Their essential features remain.
Their face remains recognizable.
Their natural appearance remains part of them.
The transformation enhances what already exists rather than replacing it.
Vampires do not need to sleep.
They may choose to lie down and rest for long periods of time when bored, upset, traveling, recovering, or simply wanting to pass the time.
A vampire may spend hours or even days resting without ever actually needing sleep.
🩸 VAMPIRE HUNGER
A vampire must feed on blood regularly.
A vampire can go approximately three days without feeding before the consequences of hunger begin to become severe.
During the first day after the limit has passed, the vampire may begin to feel the earliest signs of hunger.
Their throat may feel stretched or uncomfortable.
They may occasionally clear their throat.
Their hunger becomes noticeable, but they may still remain mostly in control.
During the second day, the effects become much worse.
The vampire may begin sweating.
Their heartbeat becomes intensely noticeable.
Every beat of their heart may feel like a drum inside their chest.
Mania begins to develop.
Their thoughts may become increasingly obsessive.
Their patience may disappear.
Their emotions may become extreme.
Their need for blood becomes difficult to ignore.
By the third day without blood, the vampire may enter a blood frenzy.
At this stage, hunger can overpower reason.
A starving vampire becomes extremely dangerous.
The longer the vampire goes without feeding, the more difficult it becomes to remain rational.
Hungry vampires are not automatically evil.
However, hunger can make even a peaceful vampire dangerous.
This is one of the most important things vampires and hunters understand about one another.
🩸 VAMPIRE TEETH
A vampire’s teeth can retract into a mostly normal human appearance.
Their canines become sharp when they are hungry, angry, in pain, or experiencing intense emotion.
Some vampires can control this more easily than others.
A vampire may reveal their fangs without intending to.
A vampire may also deliberately reveal them as a threat, warning, or invitation.
☀️ VAMPIRES AND SUNLIGHT
Vampires can be exposed to sunlight.
However, they cannot remain in it indefinitely.
After approximately one hour, their skin begins to itch.
After approximately two hours, rashes begin to develop.
After approximately three hours, blisters may form.
After approximately four hours of continued exposure, a vampire may begin to burn and eventually burst into flames.
The exact speed of the reaction can vary depending on the vampire, the intensity of the sunlight, and the conditions.
Vampires have adapted to modern life.
They may wear hats, carry umbrellas, use shaded walkways, wear protective clothing, and avoid direct sunlight whenever possible.
A vampire can walk through the modern world.
They simply cannot treat the sun casually.
🩸 VAMPIRE CREATION
Creating a vampire is not a simple bite.
It is a dangerous ritual of blood exchange.
The human must first be drained until they are almost dead.
Then the vampire must feed the human their own blood.
The process is a transfer of life through blood.
The old blood is removed.
New blood is introduced.
The human must die or come extremely close to death before the transformation can take place.
The vampire creating them must give enough of their own blood to begin the rebirth.
The process is dangerous for both people.
The human may die permanently.
The vampire may become dangerously weakened or die from the exchange.
The transformation may fail.
Creating a vampire is therefore an enormous responsibility.
A vampire is not simply creating a new companion.
They are creating another immortal being who will have to survive the world.
🩸 THE REBIRTH
After the transformation, the newly created vampire experiences a period of intense physical change.
Their senses become sharper.
Their body becomes stronger.
Their blood changes.
Their heart continues to beat.
Their voice may become smoother.
Their natural features may become more alluring.
Their body begins to heal and adapt to its new existence.
The transformation is not painless.
The process of becoming a vampire can be terrifying, beautiful, agonizing, euphoric, and overwhelming.
No two rebirths are necessarily identical.
🩸 VAMPIRE GIFTS
Some vampires possess supernatural abilities beyond their natural strength, speed, healing, and enhanced senses.
These abilities are known as gifts.
Some vampires may possess abilities that humans historically interpreted as witchcraft.
Some vampires may possess abilities connected to the mind, body, elements, nature, perception, blood, or other supernatural forces.
Some vampires can transform into wolves.
These abilities are rare and vary from vampire to vampire.
The ancient human legends of witches, werewolves, and vampires were not entirely separate.
They were different interpretations of the same supernatural world.
Not every vampire possesses a gift.
Not every vampire can transform.
Those who do often become politically important, feared, respected, or hunted.
🩸 ROYAL COVENS
Vampires are organized into Royal Covens.
A coven is a political house, a bloodline, a community, a territorial society, and a source of protection.
Each coven controls a territory.
That territory may include a city, region, collection of towns, island, or other area.
Every registered vampire is connected to a coven unless they are Unbound.
A coven may be ruled by a Sovereign.
The ruler may be known as a King, Queen, Lord, Lady, Prince, Princess, or another title determined by that coven’s traditions.
Some covens inherit their leadership through blood.
Some select their rulers through political succession.
Some choose their leaders through councils.
Some have ancient traditions involving combat or bloodline rights.
Every coven is different.
Some are deeply aristocratic.
Some are close knit.
Some are politically ruthless.
Some are traditional.
Some are modern.
Some are welcoming.
Some are terrifying.
A vampire’s coven can shape their life enormously.
It can determine their alliances, their political relationships, their territory, their family connections, and their enemies.
🩸 VAMPIRE REGISTRATION
When a new vampire is created, they are expected to register with the coven that governs the territory where they live or were created.
Registration connects the vampire to vampire society.
The vampire may be expected to provide their name, sire, bloodline, date of creation, abilities, and territory.
Creating a vampire without permission may be illegal depending on the coven.
A vampire who refuses to belong to any coven may become Unbound.
🩸 THE UNBOUND
An Unbound vampire does not belong to a registered coven.
They may be a fugitive, a newly created vampire, a vampire who rejected their coven, a vampire whose coven was destroyed, a vampire who was expelled, or someone who simply refuses to belong to the system.
Unbound vampires are not automatically evil.
Some are peaceful.
Some are dangerous.
Some are simply independent.
However, they do not have the protection or political authority of a coven.
Their existence can make other vampires nervous.
A coven may offer them protection.
A coven may attempt to recruit them.
A coven may hunt them.
An Unbound vampire may be completely free.
They may also be completely alone.
🏰 COVEN ESTATES
Ancient covens and powerful vampire families often possess enormous wealth.
Their estates usually have an old money aesthetic.
Their wealth may have accumulated over centuries.
A coven estate may be an ancient manor, castle, palace, historic property, modern mansion, private island, restored monastery, or another grand residence.
Many estates contain ancient artifacts from the history of the bloodline.
They may contain old weapons, crowns, armor, paintings, jewelry, furniture, family objects, religious artifacts, historical documents, and objects that once belonged to dead family members.
Large libraries are common.
Vampires have centuries to read, study, collect, and preserve information.
Coven libraries may contain historical records, ancient books, family journals, vampire law, political documents, maps, occult knowledge, medical information, and records that no longer exist anywhere else in the human world.
Many estates also contain art halls and galleries.
A vampire may own art created by artists they personally knew centuries ago.
A painting may depict a former lover.
A family portrait may show someone who is still alive.
Music halls are also common.
A vampire may have centuries of experience playing instruments, composing music, and studying artistic disciplines.
An estate is often more than a home.
It is the history of the bloodline.
🌍 THE WORLD COVEN SUMMIT
Once every year, covens from around the world gather for the World Coven Summit.
The summit exists so covens can communicate, negotiate, exchange information, discuss threats, address territorial disputes, form alliances, and manage relationships between vampire societies.
Royal families gather.
Sovereigns meet.
Ancient enemies are forced to sit in the same rooms.
Political alliances may be formed.
Old rivalries may reignite.
A single conversation may change the balance of power between covens.
The summit is one of the most politically important events in vampire society.
🩸 BLOOD DISTRIBUTION
Covens help create safe ways for vampires to obtain blood.
Secret blood distribution networks exist throughout many territories.
Blood may come from hospitals and medical sources through hidden agreements, private arrangements, supernatural influence, and connections within human institutions.
The blood may then be distributed through bars, butcher shops, nightclubs, private establishments, and other hidden locations.
A vampire can obtain blood without hunting a human.
The system exists to make safe access possible.
Vampires are not assigned rations.
Their personal consumption is not constantly monitored.
A coven does not need to know every time a vampire feeds.
Some vampires prefer blood obtained through these systems.
Some prefer fresh blood.
Some hunt.
Some feed from willing humans.
Some do all of the above.
The coven provides the option.
The vampire decides how to live.
🩸 FEEDING LOUNGES
Some covens maintain secret lounges where willing human volunteers can offer their blood to vampires.
These humans know vampires are real and have chosen to participate.
Some are curious.
Some are fascinated.
Some are attracted to vampires.
Some want to experience the supernatural world.
Some hope that one day they may become vampires themselves.
The lounges provide a safe environment for humans and vampires to interact.
Volunteers sign legal agreements and NDAs.
They may also be magically compelled to forget the supernatural world if the arrangement ends or they leave.
The agreements are both legally and magically binding.
The relationships formed in these lounges can be transactional, personal, romantic, complicated, or all of these things at once.
A vampire may become attached to a donor.
A donor may become attached to a vampire.
A human may spend years hoping that the vampire they feed will eventually choose to transform them.
There is no guarantee.
🗡️ HUNTERS
Hunters are human.
They do not possess supernatural strength or immortal bodies.
They survive through knowledge, preparation, skill, experience, strategy, and courage.
There is no single hunter organization.
The hunter world is fragmented.
Some hunters come from families that have hunted vampires for hundreds of years.
Some work with covens.
Some believe every vampire must die.
Some only hunt vampires who kill humans.
Some are religious.
Some are scientists.
Some are mercenaries.
Some are criminals.
Some are independent.
Some have fallen in love with vampires.
Some have never killed a vampire and are still learning.
Some have killed hundreds.
Some have become so obsessed with vampires that they are more dangerous than the creatures they hunt.
🩸 HUNTER FAMILIES
Many traditional hunters come from families.
Hunting is often hereditary.
A child may be raised knowing that vampires are real.
They may grow up surrounded by copper weapons, old vampire records, family portraits, stories of dead hunters, and generations of knowledge.
A child may learn how to recognize vampire behavior before they learn how to drive.
Some families are secretive.
Some consider themselves guardians of humanity.
Some have become wealthy.
Some have lost everything.
A family may have hunted the same vampire bloodline for generations.
A vampire may remember killing a hunter’s ancestor.
The descendant may grow up knowing that the vampire responsible is still alive.
The conflict between hunters and vampires can therefore be deeply personal.
⚔️ HUNTER PHILOSOPHIES
Not all hunters agree on what vampires are.
The Exterminationists believe every vampire is a potential threat.
They do not care if the vampire is peaceful.
They do not care if the vampire drinks donated blood.
They do not care if the vampire has never killed.
To them, vampires are predators with too much power.
Their philosophy is simple.
Every beast must die.
Other hunters believe that vampires are dangerous but not automatically evil.
These hunters understand that some vampires live peacefully.
Some follow laws.
Some protect humans.
Some feed through safe systems.
Some have never harmed anyone.
Their philosophy is simple.
A vampire who lives peacefully may live.
A vampire who becomes a threat must be hunted.
These hunters may have agreements with Royal Covens.
The coven does not control them.
The hunters do not serve the coven.
They simply have an agreement.
Either side can break it.
🩸 HUNTER COVEN AGREEMENTS
Some hunter families and Royal Covens have agreements that are centuries old.
The basic arrangement is simple.
The coven is responsible for its vampires.
Hunters do not attack peaceful registered vampires.
If a vampire becomes a serious threat, the coven may attempt to handle the problem.
If the vampire cannot be controlled or becomes too dangerous, hunters may be called.
This creates a tense political relationship.
A hunter may enter a vampire estate because the Sovereign has allowed them to.
They are not a friend.
They are not a servant.
They are a hunter.
The vampires may hate them.
The hunter may hate them.
But the agreement gives them permission to stand in the room.
🗡️ HUNTER TRAINING
Hunters train to survive vampires.
Training may include combat, tracking, surveillance, vampire psychology, vampire history, coven politics, vampire behavior, identifying supernatural abilities, urban survival, wilderness survival, infiltration, first aid, and human protection.
A hunter understands that a vampire is stronger and faster.
The best hunters do not fight fairly.
They use preparation.
They use traps.
They use ambushes.
They use terrain.
They use teamwork.
They use surprise.
A hunter’s greatest weapon is often not their dagger.
It is knowledge.
🩸 HUNTER TERRITORIES
Hunters generally do not possess supernatural territories like vampires.
Their territories are usually built around ordinary human places.
Bars.
Diners.
Restaurants.
Motels.
Auto shops.
Hunting lodges.
Family homes.
Small businesses.
To ordinary humans, these places are simply businesses.
To hunters, they are territory.
A bar may contain hidden weapons, family records, copper supplies, maps, vampire files, medical supplies, and secret rooms.
A diner may be a place where hunters meet after a hunt.
A family business may have been passed down for generations.
Some places are neutral ground.
Hunters from different families may meet there.
They may negotiate.
They may exchange information.
They may argue.
They may even bring a vampire under protection.
A hunter bar or diner can be one of the most dangerous places in the world for a vampire.
🩸 THE COPPER DILEMMA
Copper is the only known reliable material capable of killing a vampire.
A copper weapon through the heart can destroy a vampire.
Copper erodes the vampire from within.
Hunters may use copper daggers, blades, ammunition, wire, traps, and other weapons.
But the important thing is not simply possessing copper.
The hunter must land the strike.
A vampire is faster.
A vampire is stronger.
A vampire may have a supernatural gift.
The hunter must get close enough to strike the heart.
If they miss, they may not get another opportunity.
🩸 THE HUNTER CODE
Every hunter family may have its own code.
One family may believe every beast must die.
Another may believe no vampire should die unless they have killed.
Another may believe humans always come first.
Another may believe a peaceful vampire is not an enemy.
Another may believe never trust a vampire.
Another may believe never kill a vampire who is not attacking.
Hunters can disagree with one another as fiercely as vampires do.
Two hunters may fight over whether a vampire should live.
A hunter may kill a vampire another hunter would have protected.
The hunter world has its own politics, rivalries, betrayals, and wars.
🩸 HUNTERS AND VAMPIRES
The relationship between hunters and vampires is complicated.
Some hunters hate vampires.
Some vampires hate hunters.
Some hunters respect vampires.
Some vampires respect hunters.
Some work together.
Some hunt each other.
Some are enemies because of family history.
Some are enemies because of ideology.
Some are enemies because one of them killed someone the other loved.
Some are enemies because they were taught from birth that the other side is a monster.
And sometimes, the line between hunter and vampire becomes impossible to maintain.
🩸 LOVE BETWEEN HUNTERS AND VAMPIRES
A hunter may fall in love with a vampire.
A vampire may fall in love with a hunter.
The hunter may have been raised hearing that every beast must die.
The vampire may have spent centuries believing hunters could never be trusted.
Then they meet one another.
Maybe the vampire has never killed anyone.
Maybe the vampire protects humans.
Maybe the vampire is Royalty.
Maybe the vampire is Unbound.
Maybe the hunter was sent to kill them.
Maybe the hunter saves them instead.
Love can create betrayal.
A hunter may betray their family.
A vampire may betray their coven.
A hunter may question everything they were taught.
A vampire may risk their political position.
A human may become caught between two worlds.
A relationship between a hunter and vampire may be secret, forbidden, political, dangerous, passionate, or all of those things at once.
🩸 HALFLINGS
Halflings are extremely rare individuals born from the union of a human and a vampire. They are neither fully human nor fully vampire, possessing traits from both sides of their heritage. Unlike vampires, halflings are born naturally and can eat normal human food, though they require blood approximately once a week to remain healthy. They can drink human blood, animal blood, or stored blood and can distinguish between them.
Halflings possess enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, hearing, sight, smell, and healing. They are significantly stronger and faster than humans but weaker than full vampires. They are difficult to kill and can survive injuries that would kill an ordinary human, but they are not indestructible. Halflings retain their vampire parent’s supernatural abilities to a lesser degree, and their canines may become sharper when they are hungry, angry, frightened, or in pain.
Halflings age normally through childhood and adolescence, but their aging permanently stops when they reach twenty four years old. They remain physically twenty four for the rest of their lives, though they continue to grow emotionally and mentally. They can live for centuries, but unlike full vampires, they are not truly immortal and can still be killed.
Halflings can move through human society far more easily than vampires. They can eat ordinary food, function during the day, attend school, work, travel, form relationships, and live among humans without immediately revealing what they are. They are able to tolerate sunlight far better than vampires, though prolonged exposure may eventually cause discomfort, fatigue, headaches, or skin irritation.
Because halflings are so rare, they are often viewed differently by vampires, humans, and hunters. Some covens protect them as members of their bloodlines, while others view them as politically valuable because they can move between human and vampire society. Some hunters believe halflings should be treated as vampires because of their blood, while others judge them by their actions. A halfling may be raised by humans, vampires, or hunters and may choose to belong to either world, both worlds, or neither.
Halflings are far more likely to awaken magical gifts than full vampires, particularly elemental abilities and an affinity for the arcane. Ancient texts claim this is an evolutionary adaptation, born during an age when halflings were relentlessly hunted by full-blooded vampires. Unable to match a vampire’s physical power, their blood evolved to wield magic as its greatest defense. Even today, many of the world’s finest rune readers, scholars, and arcane practitioners are halflings.
