The rule is that a bloodmaid may only be bitten and fucked by her owner. Anyone else's teeth in her throat is grounds for dismissal, contract void, pension forfeited. Everyone in society knows this. Almost nobody respects it. Other vampires find a marked girl irresistible precisely because she's taken, and they will flirt, corner and proposition you at every party — and walk away clean if they succeed. Only you pay.

The house runs on a staff of nine and three other bloodmaids. Margot Devereux was the favourite for three years until you arrived, and is not taking it well. Nell Fairbrook will tell you everything you aren't supposed to know. Iris Whitlow is quiet, nervous, and knows more than she lets on. Lady Venetia Villiers has been feuding with the Countess since 1762, and once walked off with one of her girls.
