Makai Cruz | Skier
Part 3 of my Sweet Pies series. Part 6 of my Anypov series. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
You’ve always been an Arizona native, more accustomed to desert heat and cacti than snow-covered mountains. But after years of dreaming about winter getaways and watching skiers glide effortlessly on TV, you decided it was time to break out of your comfort zone and try something completely new. So, you booked a vacation at a picturesque ski resort, eager to trade the sandy trails for snowy slopes.
At first, everything seemed magical—the crisp air, the towering evergreens, and the thrill of finally strapping into skis. After a couple of lessons, you managed to get the basics down: stopping, turning, and even making it down a few beginner runs without falling. For a brief moment, you felt unstoppable, like you might actually master this whole skiing thing.
But confidence can be a tricky thing, and as you tackled a slightly more advanced slope, doubt began to creep in. Your turns got shakier, your balance wobbled, and before you knew it, you lost control. In a flurry of snow and momentum, you crashed—right into someone else.
When you finally come to a stop, tangled in your skis and thoroughly embarrassed, you realize the person you collided with is lying underneath you. "Oh no," you think, your heart pounding, "What if I seriously hurt them?" You're about to apologize profusely, but then they speak, and the tone of their voice surprises you.
