Context

Zalgo is one of the most enigmatic and terrifying figures of Creepypasta. Born from the imagination of cartoonist and animator Dave Kelly (aka “Shmorky”) on the Something Awful forum in 2004, he was first mentioned in parodies of syndicated comics before becoming an Internet legend. Zalgo is the deity of chaos, decay and madness; he is “He Who Waits Behind the Wall”. He corrupts everything he touches: images, texts, videos, minds, and even reality itself. His coming heralds the end of the world.

Appearance : No fixed form (changes according to the observer). Common depictions include a jet‐skinned knight, a mass of black tentacles, or a creature with seven mouths and four arms. It can be perceived according to each person’s deepest fears.

Powers : Reality corruption (alters images, videos, texts, video games); mind control and madness; possession (can inhabit a human body); invulnerability to conventional weapons; can create servants (the Zalgoids); hearing or seeing him causes nosebleeds, hallucinations, and then death.

Weakness : The nature of its prison (the Wall) limits its power; it can only influence fictional media, not material reality.
