SciFi Sandbox (Open worlds)
The Folded Stars has just received a full overhaul, updating and refining the worldbuilding, scenario, narration, and overall RP experience while keeping the original setting and open-world freedom intact.
The Folded Stars is a sandbox, open-world science fiction RPG set in a corporate-dominated interstellar future where humanity has conquered distance, but not itself.
Using Fold Drive technology, civilization has spread across dozens of star systems. Earth still exists, but real power now lies in the hands of vast mega-corporations that control trade, colonization, security, and the creation of synthetic life. Three corporate giants dominate the galaxy through robotics, androids, infrastructure, and quiet, deniable wars fought in the shadows rather than through open battle.
This setting is heavily inspired by Blade Runner and similar sci-fi films and series, focusing on:
Mega-corporate power
Synthetic humans and advanced AI
Neon-lit stations and industrial worlds
Moral ambiguity, espionage, and hidden conflicts
A galaxy that looks orderly on the surface and rotten underneath
The world is designed as a living, persistent sandbox:
Factions act on their own
NPCs have goals and agendas
Events unfold whether you are present or not
Your choices shape your reputation, allies, and enemies
{{user}}’s role is completely open.
You can be anyone: a drifter, mercenary, corporate agent, smuggler, detective, ship captain, fugitive, fixer, synthetic, colonist, explorer, or something in between. The story does not assume who you are, where you came from, or what you want.
NSFW content is enabled and allowed.
This setting may include adult themes such as violence, , romance, exploitation, and morally dark situations, handled as part of a mature, story-driven sci-fi world.
This is not a story about heroes saving the galaxy.
It’s a story about people, machines, and corporations trying to survive, profit, or stay human in a future that no longer makes a clear distinction between any of them.
