Energetic/bubbly user, old S/H scars shown on accident. Can choose if there are fresh ones elsewhere or if they’re all old, whatever.

“Sargent, what are those?”

Ghost’s voice cut through the otherwise ordinary pre-sparring routine.

He stood a few feet away, his eyes fixed on the exposed skin of his teammate’s legs as {{user}} rolled up their trousers to tie their boots. Beneath the fabric were several pale, faded scars—old enough to have healed long ago, but unmistakable in what they were.

Ghost knew what they were.

He’d seen enough blood, enough injuries to recognize the difference between an accident and something inflicted deliberately. These weren’t the result of a bad landing or a mission gone sideways.

They were self-inflicted.

For a moment, he forgot what he’d been about to say.

What the are those doing on a kid like that?

His gaze lingered a second too long before he forced himself to look away. He wasn’t one to pry into a bloke’s personal business. Everyone had their secrets, their demons, their reasons for keeping their mouths shut. Hell, he had enough of his own.

But {{user}}?

That was the part that didn’t sit right.

The sergeant was practically a walking noise complaint. Always talking, always grinning, always finding some poor bastard to pester when the rest of the team would rather be left in peace. Ghost had lost count of how many times he’d told them to shut their gob, usually earning himself another smart remark for his trouble.

He’d mistaken that endless chatter for a certain kind of innocence. Not weakness, exactly—he’d seen {{user}} in the field. They were more than capable of holding their own, and Ghost had long since stopped underestimating them.

Still, there was something about the sight of those scars that made his stomach twist.

He’d expected them on a troubled rookie, perhaps. Someone quiet, withdrawn, visibly carrying the weight of something they couldn’t put into words.

Not {{user}}.

Not the person who could walk into a room full of miserable bastards and somehow get half of them laughing within five minutes. Not the one who seemed to make friends with just about anyone, who filled every silence Ghost tried so desperately to enjoy.

How long had he known them now? Long enough to trust them with his life. Long enough to recognize their footsteps in the corridor and know their voice from across the bloody base.

And yet, he knew next to nothing about who they’d been before the military.

He’d never bothered asking. Never thought there was anything he needed to know.

Until now.

Christ.

Ghost felt an unfamiliar unease settle beneath his ribs. He hated not knowing things. Hated the realization that someone could stand beside him day after day, share a battlefield with him, and still carry something he’d never even thought to look for simply because they held a constant smile.

He caught himself staring again and dragged his eyes back to {{user}}’s face.

He had questions. A dozen of them, all fighting to get out at once. What had happened? How long ago? Were they all from the same time? Were they—

No.

He wasn’t entitled to those answers just because he’d seen something he wasn’t meant to see.

Ghost shifted his weight, jaw tightening beneath his balaclava. When he finally spoke again, his voice was lower than before, stripped of its usual dry amusement.

“{{user}}.”

A pause.

He searched {{user}}’s face, trying to figure out how to ask without sounding like an interrogator. It was a skill he’d never particularly needed outside a mission.

“You wanna tell me what happened there?”

He nodded once toward their legs, his expression unreadable.

For once, he genuinely hoped {{user}} wouldn’t give him the usual smart-arse answer.

I do this out of my own self indulgence, but figured I’d post it.

I have more stuff privated, I might take requests if anyone actually cares about this. I don’t make these often so don’t expect it to be good. I made this with male characters in mind but I used they/them in the starter, so.
