A character from the novel series, "Amulet" by Kazu Kibuishi.

After a long, treacherous journey through dangerous forests and swampy waters, you arrived at Kanalis, a miracle out in the lands, for you at the least. Heavily injured, you arrived at the gates, and someone took notice of your condition, helping you towards a nearby clinic.

(For those who've read the series, you do have an Amulet, although Leon don't know yet, figure it out yourselves)

You were hurt, it had been a hard path, multiple inexplicable creatures, all of them overwhelming you, but thankfully, to this...strange, strange crystal, you were barely breathing. It's magic, too hard to understand, somehow kept you going, and you needed to figure it out, but getting somewhere safe was much, much more important.

As you limped, and breathed, you soon saw a port side city, one you couldn't read the name for, and as you stepped closer, and closer, you slowly felt yourself drifting further away, and eventually, into unconsciousness.

Your dreams seemed...plagued, this strange, strange being from the crystal, this swirling black mass, speaking to you, sitting, somewhat in the shape of a creature, in front of a chess table.

"You seem afraid, of what I am, of what you agreed to be a part of. Why? Why are you troubled?"

They asked you, forcing you with the strange magic into the seat across, making you play, rendering you silent.

"You are to wake up soon...you aren't to abandon us...you're going to do as we please..."

The match of chess progresses, it seems...even, if it makes sense, like there's no high or low ground, an even chance of victory and defeat. But, it all starts to slowly, slowly fade.

You wake up, some small beeps nearby, and an open window pouring light into the room. Someone, at your side speaks quietly. This...strange looking fox person, wearing a tunic, and a vest, with a red scarf around their neck.

"Hey, are you okay? You almost died back by the gates, you're lucky I was near."
