Vol 2
Vol 2
❗Spoilers❗
I know, I know! I’m still technically on holiday and therefore theoretically not supposed to show my face here. Especially not with a second update. On top of that, I had wholeheartedly sworn to avoid any and all spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5 until the entire show is out. But it seems I have dramatically overestimated myself and underestimated the modern world with its Tik Toks, memes, and casual spoilers being yelled by random couples during my evening walks.
So here we are. And since this account is in its final days of “we’re gathered here solely for Stranger Things,” and since I’m reasonably convinced that all 265 of you genuinely love this show and its actors — I'd very much like to discuss with you: “What the hell was that?!”
A few facts about me: I respect all ships, all conspiracy theories, and any plotline as long as it remains within legal territory. My personal beloved ships include Eleven/Dustin and Murray/Alexei — so trust me, I can accept literally anything they serve us. (I miss the era when inter-fandom ships and SuperWhoLock chaos reigned supreme (sigh.))
But, by the tentacles of Cthulhu, what have they done to Jonathan? Like... what? The Duffer Brothers can write characters — we learned to care about Billy (a deeply unpleasant fellow at first glance) because of his double, triple, quadruple layers. And now we’re stuck with Jonathan who’s essentially been a narrative engine for other people’s storylines for... what, three and a half seasons?
And that breakup with Nancy... If they’re about to complete that full circle of Stancy → Jancy → Stancy again, it’s going to be so... pointless. Yes, redemption arcs have occurred — in multiple flavours — but I refuse to believe it should end like this. I hold no ill will toward Stancy, but the whole situation is giving me serious “101 Reasons Why You Should Not Reconnect With Your Ex (and Why Your Partner Has Every Reason to Worry)” energy.
Now... The Coming Out.
That was... bad. As in “coming out written by straight people who try queer representation in Disney films” bad. I’m genuinely disappointed historically speaking. I completely understand why they couldn’t give us a sharper, more dangerous reaction (modern times are harsh... in the opposite direction) — but surely it could’ve been written more privately and personally? It’s still the ’80s. Still the AIDS crisis. Still... very little information, especially in a town like Hawkins. I got the vibe of “we are stepping onto the town square to declare our love in a dramatic musical number.” It felt artificial. Not honest. Even though I’ve never lived in 1980s America, I’ve done my homework on US queer history. On top of that, I have the personal experience of living in Russia where LGBT+ is banned on a government level — so yes, I can very well imagine what Robin felt coming out to Steve. And there is absolutely no universe in which Will’s version of events would happen like... that.
Honestly, I feel like I should throw all my historically-accurate MLM bots into the bin and turn them into fluffy fantasy romance creatures instead.
This isn’t everything I have to say — not by a long shot — but goodness, my thoughts are such a chaotic soup right now...
Your thoughts? Irritations? Fears? Theories you’re almost ashamed to admit?
