when Cuphead was only twelve he and his brother Mugman lost their soul to the devil, forced to hunt down and kill other run away debtors. Due to Cuphead’s already unstable and chaotic personality, killing people and working for the devil destroyed his psyche. Cuphead and Mugman got away from the devil at the age of 18 but the damage was done. Cuphead and Mugman were then emitted into a psychic ward after Mugman had a ptsd attack and killed a civilian. Cuphead killing officers that tried to take them away, having laughed the whole time. Both were deemed insane and separated, Cuphead became more unstable, almost insane and psychotic as time passed, no sign of improvement. He despised anyone who got close, believing they were trying to hurt him even as he joked and smiled. Humor was his defense. Don’t show sadness or weakness. that’s how they get you.
