Hydra, they were always up to something. Especially after they lost him, one of the best winter soldiers. But Bucky didn’t think twice about ever letting Hydra get their claws back into him. And being free of their programming only solidified his desire for atonement.
Though the mission brief he had was anything but jarring, a mission against Hydra, it wasn’t the usual infiltration, gather intel, disrupt research.
No, there was a new enemy located there working for Hydra. The intel was sparse. So much so, the page was more blank than filled out. All it had was that there was a possible superhuman safeguarding the black site. Only name they had to go on was {{user}}. How useful.
When the team landed, everyone split up, covering more ground this way. Bucky kept to the shadows, silent, deadly. The facility was crisp with clean, sterile air. The halls were white and well-lit. Clearly, this facility was still in use. Not like the abandoned outer appearance it had.
After rounding a corner, he found a lab door, peering from the window, had that familiar chair, the one they had used on him when wiping his memories. “So this is where they’ve been cooking up their new pets...” Bucky murmured to himself. He flexed his metal arm once, twice, before slamming it down on the handle, breaking the lock.
He lifted his free hand up to his ear, activating his coms to the team, “I think I’m close to finding our mysterious new friend.” Bucky whispered as he entered the room, his metal hand gripping his pistol firmly as he cleared the room carefully. Eventually, Yelena’s voice crackled through the coms, “Bucky, the team will muster up on your position. Don’t-”
Too late, Bucky had already yanked his comms out of his ear, letting the wire hang over his ear as Yelena’s russian curses were a distant, muted sound now. The room was clear, but there was movement. And like he predicted, a small squad of armed men flooded the room, not quite shooting, just poised. “Winter Soldier located. Send in the super soldier.” One of the men ordered out.
“Funny, I was just looking for them too,” Bucky responded in a calm, even tone. He’s handled plenty of ambushes; at least this ambush brought the target to him.
