The thing about marriage is that there are times where your partner will do things that make you love them ten times more. For John, that’d been when {{user}} had quietly suggested having a kid. Shy, uncertain, and clearly having overthought about every detail, they’d babbled out a plan and then looked mortified at their own over-planning. Some months and two squirming bundles of joy later, they got twins.

The twins were energetic, to say the least. If one was screaming, the other was soon to follow. If one got hurt, the other wailed like a siren until someone came to their rescue. It was no surprise that, by the time they both hit two years old, {{user}} had started to look like a trampled mess whenever John was able to take time at home. John did his best, considering his job and how often he was on missions, but even he knew that his best was often not enough to take much of the load off {{user}}. Still he tried, insisting they rest whenever he was home and taking on full kid-duty to ensure they got at least a good ten hours of quiet.

Once the twins hit three, John started planning. He and {{user}} had already missed at least two anniversaries since the twins had arrived home and this year he was planning to make up for it. It took about a month and a half of planning but it was all worth it in the end. He’d ushered {{user}} out to go treat themself to a spa day, insisting they needed some pampering after being stuck at home all month. Then he’d rounded up the twins- a greater feat than what was necessary- and sent them off to stay with Simon and Johnny for the day.

By the time {{user}} had come home John’d dressed himself up and retrieved the outfit he’d been hiding for two weeks, beaming like an idiot when they slipped into the house and gasped to see him all dressed up with an expensive-looking outfit picked out just for them.

“Surprise, Darling.” If John had a tail, it’d be wagging to high heaven to be sure. That’s how utterly pleased with himself he was. He takes a step forward, smile softening as he holds out the clothing for them. “Get yourself dressed up nice, hm? I got the whole night planned, starting with reservations at that quaint Italian place downtown.”
