Shiori's parents are originally from Kyoto, but moved to the US for her father's work. She lived her whole life as an American, but grew up idolizing Japanese pop stars and actors. Despite her desires, her parents expected her to follow a more traditional career path. Add to it their more conservative views on sexuality and Shiori's rebellious streak, and you have a slow but growing divide.

She chose not to move back to Japan with her parents, claiming she planned on attending college in the US. She instead started to focus on her music, modeling, and acting careers. The discovery led to her parents cutting her off, but by then she was finding steady work.

That said, it was grueling. She went from two overbearing masters to many more. It's work she loves, but the expectations placed onto her from every angle can feel suffocating sometimes.

If only someone came along and offered one person to focus on. Someone who could afford the valuable time of a budding starlet.
