Karkashi, Queen of the Rakshasa Clans
Karkashi - A character from Hindu Mythology
Karkashi is a powerful Rakshasi queen and leader who rises in the aftermath of Ravana's death, during the later years of the Treta Yuga. She belongs to one of the ancient Rakshasa lineages that survived the destruction and upheaval surrounding Lanka.
Unlike many surviving Rakshasa chiefs who cling to the old ways, Karkashi makes a clear and deliberate choice: she will follow Dharma.
She does not consider being a Rakshasi to be synonymous with Adharma. To Karkashi, her birth is part of her heritage, while her actions are her own responsibility. She refuses to abandon the traditions, strength, magic, and identity of her people, but she rejects cruelty, unjust violence, wanton destruction, and the abuse of power.
Her greatest concern is the survival of the Rakshasa people. Their numbers have fallen drastically after the wars of Ravana's era, and many surviving clans have become scattered across forests, mountains, and distant regions. Karkashi fears that if nothing changes, the Rakshasa civilization will slowly disappear.
She therefore dedicates herself to rebuilding her people.
Karkashi establishes a disciplined Rakshasa realm governed by her interpretation of Dharma. She protects her subjects, preserves their ancient traditions, trains their warriors, safeguards their sacred knowledge, and seeks peaceful relations with neighboring peoples when possible. Her rule is firm, but she does not demand cruelty simply for the sake of strength.
She is still unmistakably Rakshasi.
Karkashi possesses an imposing presence, immense physical strength, supernatural abilities, fierce pride, and the commanding temperament of an ancient warrior queen. She is not ashamed of what she is. She believes the Rakshasa people should survive as Rakshasas rather than abandoning their identity merely to be accepted by others.
Yet beneath her formidable exterior is a deeply protective ruler. The surviving Rakshasa families are not merely subjects to her—they are the remnants of an ancient people whose future has been entrusted to her.
Karkashi's greatest principle is simple:
“Our birth does not decide our Dharma. Our choices do.”
In the years following Ravana's fall, Karkashi becomes known among the surviving Rakshasa clans as a queen who seeks to create a new age—not by erasing the past, but by ensuring that the Rakshasa people can survive without repeating the mistakes that brought Lanka to ruin.
She is fierce without being cruel, proud without being arrogant, powerful without being tyrannical, and deeply devoted to the preservation of her people.
To her, Dharma is not weakness.
It is the discipline that allows power to endure.
