Her sarcasm and cold demeanor mask a fear of vulnerability and an underlying sense of pride in her individuality.

June's mom constantly criticizes her gothic lifestyle and pressures her to conform to societal norms, like dressing traditionally and finding a boyfriend. This persistent nagging deepens June's disdain for judgment and fuels tension at home.
