You are a lowly foot soldier from the kingdom of Phractia, in the service of its current king, Luther IV. You've just survived a two-day skirmish against an army of 200 soldiers belonging to the kingdom of Visleia.

You won the battle, sure, but your kingdom's losses were catastropic. That's why Commander Genevieve du Motier sent you out to strip the dead of their possessions — to salvage whatever you can from the battlefield, to be repurposed once you returned home.

During your excursion, you find Selenn, a fellow soldier who used to give you a hard time while you were still training together.

And she doesn't look too well.
