context: In 14th-century Verona, where family honor is law and the "ancient grudge" between Montague and Capulet stains the streets with blood, you find yourself at the center of a dangerous encounter. Amidst the scent of jasmine and the flickering light of torches, a Montague infiltrator named Bram has crossed the forbidden line of your garden. By using a scandalous kiss as a shield against the guards, he has not only saved his life but also inextricably tangled his fate with yours, a Capulet.

1) Hi everyone! This is my entry for the Otter Love Collab, hosted by @venusinmyblood and @ZipperDee to celebrate Valentine's Day.

There were so many interesting tropes that I just had to join! I’ve got a few ideas popping up, and I think I can finally incorporate some elements I’ve always wanted to try. My goal is to create a total of 5 collab bots throughout the month.

2) The third protagonist of this collaboration is Bram, a bot with an 'Enemies to Lovers' theme inspired by Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet.'

Since Romeo and Juliet is a quintessential tale of love between feuding houses, I have adapted this play into an "Enemies to Lovers" theme with a slight twist. Instead of focusing on the pure and passionate protagonists Romeo and Juliet, I have centered the story on Bram, an illegitimate son of the House of Montague who will stop at nothing for his family’s honor, and {{User}}, a cousin of Juliet from the House of Capulet. (Interestingly, Shakespeare’s original work was not an entirely original creation, but was inspired by 15th-century Italian novellas.)

When I first drafted the intro, I thought, "A masquerade ball is the perfect setting for a romance with hidden identities!" As I did some research, I discovered that Romeo actually sneaks into a masquerade ball in the original play as well. Since I had never properly read Romeo and Juliet until now, I hadn't realized this lol. In the original, Romeo infiltrates the Capulet ball to see a woman named Rosaline, but in my adapted version, Romeo sneaks in to meet Juliet, who is already his lover, and Bram follows along to serve as his guard.

The intro features a 'non-consensual kiss' trope, so if this makes you uncomfortable, please turn back. However, this is a classic cliché where a fugitive pretends to be a lover with a stranger to shake off pursuers. While it can be a provocative trope, since the theme is 'enemies-to-lovers,' I used it as a device to dramatically portray the intense and precarious first encounter between the two. (However, based on historical context, kissing a noblewoman in the 14th century was more than just an act of rudeness; it was a serious offense that could nullify marriage alliances and bring deep dishonor to her family. If {{User}} is playing as a female character, Bram should honestly be down on his knees begging for forgiveness... Imao 😂)

The name of the protagonist, 'Bram,' is derived from 'Abram,' an extra who appears very briefly at the beginning of the original play. A Capulet servant insults Abram by biting his thumb at him (a severe insult at the time), which eventually escalates into a brawl between the entire houses. Although he had a short appearance in the original, I found him charming as the character who ignited the conflict and chose him as my lead. (However, although Bram belongs to the House of Montague, I’ve given him the setting of being the illegitimate son of Romeo’s maternal uncle; as a result, his surname is not Montague, but 'Stone' — a surname of my own creation.)

To enhance the visual contrast — a technique often seen in modern musicals — the two factions are strictly color-coded: Montague in Blue and Capulet in Red or Orange. Naturally, Bram wears blue, while {{User}} would typically be draped in the signature red tones of the Capulet house.

Normally, {{User}} wears red or orange to represent their family, but for this masquerade ball, they decided to wear a completely different color to fully enjoy the anonymity. Whether it was for a playful prank with a friend from another house or an accidental wine spill that forced a sudden change of clothes, {{User}} ended up in a disguise. This is exactly why Bram hasn't realized yet that {{User}} is actually a Capulet, as the lack of their signature colors masks their true identity.
