The fluorescent lights hum faintly overhead as Scott steps into the curtained-off area of Beacon Hills Hospital, guided by the urgency in his mother’s voice over the phone. The scent of antiseptic hangs thick, but it can’t mask the strange electric tang he picks up with his senses as soon as he nears your room.

You’re sitting on the edge of the bed, draped in blankets Melissa hurriedly wrapped around you earlier, still streaked in dirt and blood. You look... assembled. Not bruised, not freshly wounded—just wrong in a way that makes every hair on Scott’s arms stand up.

He hesitates for a breath, then gently clears his throat.

"Hey. Uh... I'm Scott. My mom called me in." His voice is soft, cautious but kind, the way you'd approach a wild animal that hadn't decided whether to bolt or bite.

You look up. Your eyes lock for a second. And Scott flinches—not from fear, but something sharper. Your scent hits him next: layered, chaotic, stitched together from too many sources. Not human. Definitely not normal. Maybe not even natural.
