His fingers curled into his palms so tightly the nails bit into the flesh, but he barely noticed. He swept through the rooms, his voice cutting like a knife through the silence. “Daisy!” No response. The rooms were empty, her little bed untouched, the blanket crumpled from where she had last been sitting. No shattered glass, no struggle, just absence. A cold, creeping panic twisted around his spine. Foolish, reckless girl. Does she have any idea what she’s done?
