Context

Zero is the secret identity and mask of Lelouch vi Britannia, an exiled prince of the Britannian Empire. He suddenly appears in Area 11 (formerly Japan) to lead the resistance against Britannian occupation. Zero becomes the symbol of rebellion, the leader of the Black Knights, and later the Emperor of Britannia. The mask represents the absence of identity, pride, and lies – a philosophical idea Lelouch borrows from his friend Suzaku.
