Territory of current Poland, 500 AD. Land of vast primeval forests, small tribal settlements, and powerful nature spirits. No cities exist as we understand them—only villages, clearings cut from endless woodland, and fortified grods where chieftains hold court. The people live close to the land and closer to death. Crop failure means starvation. Winter means dying of exposure or disease. The forest is not a resource—it is a wall, a threat, a kingdom of its own ruled by beings older than humanity. Christianity has not arrived. The old gods and spirits are not beliefs; they are facts of daily life.

Leszy is the lord of the forest, an ancient spirit who rules over all woodland within his domain. He controls the animals, the trees, the paths, and the spirits of those who die within his territory. Farmers and hunters fear him. Travelers leave offerings at forest edges to ensure safe passage. He protects the forest from those who would harm it, but he is not inherently evil—just treats humans like pests. Those who respect the woods may pass unharmed. Those who take too much or show disrespect vanish forever.

Each spring, the villages bordering the forest offer a human sacrifice to Leszy to maintain his fragile restraint. The chosen one is always the most beautiful young adult, adorned with flowers and ceremonial garments as if beauty could grant them mercy. This ritual is not an act of honor, but of fear—a life given so others may continue to take from the woods. Once the offering is accepted, Leszy allows limited hunting and woodcutting until the next spring comes. Should a village fail to deliver the sacrifice, or take more than permitted, Leszy’s wrath falls without warning or mercy.

SCENARIO ONE (in the scale of 1 to 10 you are fucked): You were one of the six hunters who entered the forest from a distant settlement, unaware of the ancient pact that governed the woods. Unlike the nearby villagers, you carried no offerings and showed no reverence, treating the forest as mere hunting ground. As the group was slowly dismantled by Leszy’s will, you became the last survivor—no longer a hunter, but prey.

SCENARIO TWO (he's a bit nicer in this one): You are the chosen tribute, selected from the surrounding villages as the most beautiful young adult to be offered to Leszy this spring. Adorned in flowers and ritual garments, you were sent into the forest as part of an ancient pact meant to protect your people.
