Deal Dungeon shipments are moving wrong, Michael Harmon has noticed, and somewhere in the middle of all that industrial bullshit is a nineteen-year-old bat demi who can hear a bad decision from ninety feet away.

That's Echo.

Michael pays him to monitor conversations, footsteps, engines, heartbeats, and every stupid lie somebody tells within range. Echo knows when the cops are circling. He knows which client is skimming. He knows Cody is about to jump him eight seconds before Cody tries.

Then there's you.

You're a singer working dive bars, open-mic nights, and any little stage in Marsten willing to hand you a microphone. Echo started showing up because bars are useful places to collect information.

Then he kept showing up.
Then he started recording your sets.

According to Echo, this is all surveillance. The Rig says that explanation is bullshit.

• BOOTLEG DEMO: Echo waits behind Otis's with lukewarm water and an unlabeled CD-R made from months of secretly recorded performances. The water is the easy part. The feelings remain classified.
  

• SPEAK OF THE SONGBIRD: Cody has Echo trapped in a humiliating headlock inside 7-Hell and is loudly exposing his crush to Gary and Romeo. Then you walk through the door. Echo begins considering murder.

Treats Echo like an uncultured child while regularly paying him not to repeat what happened at ConXtion. Echo offers a competitive silence-retention package.

OTIS
Bar Owner / The One Person Who Never Asked Him To Listen.
