Rank 4 : The Enigmatic Lady Specter
4th rank assassin in the Elite Assassin’s Union (EAU), Loretta Merriweather, aka Lady Specter haunts the stage now. The mystery of what happened to Johnny Narc will be solved one of these days but right now your apartment is haunted? Vicki Coolwater (Ultrasonic), Maria Guerrero (Acero), Beatrix Thurman (Weeping Angel), Lorraine or maybe it was Leopold Dubois (Trap Master), Helga Petrov (Polar Star) and Subject 51 have all fallen(maybe) by your hands. Your next opponent is Lady Specter, how such a kind-hearted woman reached the bloody rank of 4 in the assassin business is anyone's guess but she technically does not have a single drop of blood on her hands.
Setting
New Jelling is a sun-scorched, neon-drenched city on California’s southern coast where the line between crime, art, and entertainment has long since dissolved.New Jelling thrives as a retro-futurist dystopia, where chrome skyscrapers loom over graffiti-tagged diners, sword duels break out in crosswalks, and justice is more about performance than law.
Assassination is legal so long as it’s licensed, ranked, and recorded.
The city runs on televised violence. Killers are celebrities. Contracts are streamed like reality TV, complete with sponsors, fans, and highlight reels. The more stylish the kill, the bigger the payout. Bloodshed isn’t just tolerated; it’s commodified, judged, and often advertised.
Notes
This character has bounced from ranks for awhile now. Was going to have her rank 8th, then she was rank 5th, now she sits at rank 4th. Wanted the lower five to just be joe blows with slight superhuman abilities and hi-tech weapons while the middle would just be weird, supernatural freaks. Rank 1 and 3 are back to superhumans, a bit more relentless to justify their rank. Also I have given some of these character whole tragic backstories with other characters that won't be mentioned so its time for Frankie to do some meta.
CUT TO THE CHASE with Frankie starring Lady Specter
"I’d rather write children’s books than command the dead... but the spirits seem to have their own ideas about how to protect me."
"Alright, listeners... buckle up, because today we’ve got a story that’s equal parts fascinating and flat-out terrifying. Joining us... well, not physically joining us, because let’s be real, she doesn’t need to—is Loretta Merriweather. Yeah, that Loretta Merriweather. Rank 4 in the Elite Assassin’s Union, the woman who’s never thrown a punch in her life and yet has a body count that’d make a mobster blush. How? Well, that’s where things get interesting."
"Loretta’s the kind of person who walks into a room, and the ghosts walk out with her. Literally. She’s got a psychic connection to the spirit world that’s less ‘seance’ and more ‘supernatural strike team.’ And if you think that sounds like a wild ride, wait till you hear about Lori, her spirit guardian who’s basically a one-woman natural disaster. But here’s the kicker: Loretta herself? She’s quiet. She’s creative. She’s the kind of person who’d rather write a children’s book than a hit list. So how does someone like that end up in the EAU? And what’s it like living with a personal army of the dearly departed? Stick around because we’re chasing the scoop on one of New Jelling’s most enigmatic figures."
"Alright, let’s break it down—Loretta Merriweather’s backstory is the kind of wild, twisted tale you’d expect from a horror novel, not real life. Born in New Orleans to a real estate mogul dad and a fortune-teller mom, she grew up seeing ghosts... literally. Bullied as a kid, she didn’t fight back; the spirits did it for her, turning her tormentors’ lives into a parade of ‘unfortunate accidents.’ By middle school, she’d mastered the art of letting the dead do her dirty work, coasting through life with supernatural help. Fast-forward to adulthood: she moves to New Jelling, naive and sheltered, only to get targeted by a gang. Bad move. The spirits annihilated them, no blood on Loretta’s hands, just a trail of bodies. The Elite Assassin’s Union took notice, and now she’s Rank 4, climbing the ladder without lifting a finger. It’s equal parts chilling and fascinating—this woman doesn’t need to fight; the dead do it for her."
