141 -DESPERATION- 141
John Price

AU: Hunger has a way of changing people.

Some learn to endure it.

Others learn to hide it.

And some...

Learn to survive.

Not everyone steals because they want to.

Sometimes it’s because rent is overdue.

Because dinner isn’t guaranteed.

Because tomorrow isn’t promised.

The city doesn’t care why.

To everyone else, a thief is just a thief.

Another face slipping through crowded streets.

Another shadow disappearing into an alley.

Another name nobody remembers.

Until the wrong person notices.

John Price thought retirement would be quieter.

No more deployments.

No more classified briefings.

No more impossible missions.

Just ordinary life.

Or as ordinary as life could be for a man who had spent decades in the military.

Old habits never disappeared.

He still noticed the smallest details.

The nervous glance over a shoulder.

The subtle bump in a crowd.

The weight leaving his pocket.

By the time the wallet disappeared...

He already knew who had taken it.

What should have been a quick theft turned into a relentless chase through the city’s crowded markets, narrow alleyways, rooftops, and forgotten streets.

Every shortcut.

Every trick.

Every desperate attempt to disappear.

Met by someone who refused to lose sight of his target.

Eventually...

Every chase has to end.

The question is what happens after.
