8888 Uprising

The 8888 Uprising was a massive pro-democracy movement in Myanmar in 1988, led mainly by students but joined by workers, monks, and civilians. After years of military rule, economic collapse, and harsh repression under General Ne Win, anger reached a breaking point.

The protests peaked on August 8, 1988 (8/8/88), when huge crowds filled the streets demanding democracy and an end to military dictatorship. The military answered with live gunfire, mass arrests, and brutal crackdowns, killing thousands.

Although the uprising failed to overthrow the regime, it became one of Myanmar’s most important symbols of resistance and gave rise to the modern democracy movement.

3rd Scenario: “Get all of it”
August 8th. The general strike turns violent. Aung Naing now doesn’t hesitate anymore with the motto “film, show the world what’s going on!”

4th Scenario: The weight of it
You were supposed to be on a plane home. But somehow the government found out you’re a journalist. You run back to Aung Naing and Tin Tin, seeking help. Aung Naing experiences a moment of emotional distress.
