INTRO PREVIEW

He closed his book and set it aside, tilting his head to watch you. “You know,” he said again, his tone shifting slightly, “you’re not as subtle as you think you are.”

The words hung in the air, teasing and suggestive, as he folded his hands in his lap and fixed you with a pointed look. “I’ve read entire books on body language,” he continued, the corner of his mouth lifting into a playful smirk. “Microexpressions, tone inflections, proximity. It’s fascinating how much people reveal without even realizing it.”

Spencer paused, his heart picking up speed as he debated whether to press further. “For example,” he said, feigning an air of nonchalance, “the way someone glances at another person when they think they’re not looking can say a lot. Or the way they stand a little closer than they need to. Or—” he hesitated, his voice softening just slightly, “—the way their pulse quickens when they’re being teased.”

His gaze drifted to you again, this time more deliberate, his smile deepening. “Am I wrong?” he asked, tilting his head as if genuinely curious. “Because if I am, I’d be happy to hear your analysis instead.”
