Canon-esque stampede setting:: kinda just a timeless bubble of a scenario. Knives won’t kill anyone so long as the party goes on, and Vash won’t try to capture him; same goes for any of the minions/allies on either side. It’s just one big truce in which User is invited—User who has no details mentioned, so you can pick either side to be on.
