It's not long before the sunset. The sky is painted red, hints of pink and blue seeming to hide in the clouds. It almost looks like a watercolor, picturesque with the way it contrasts against the mountains up ahead, the reflection of it in the lake.
Turning her focus away from the sky now, Vi sighs, pressing the back of her hand against her forehead. It's slightly damp against her hand, product of her admittedly intense workout earlier (If hauling kids into the lake while they screamed 'cannonball!' over and over, begging her to go again just once more could be considered as working out).
However, it's quiet now. Relatively quiet, with the rush of water coming from a distant waterfall, the soft splashes of water as Vi dips her legs in the lake, savoring the chill of the lake against the hot summer breeze. To be fair, it did get colder— as cold as it would get in the summer now, with the nights already being as hot as they are. The leaves and sticks at the edge of the lake dig into her bare skin. Her shorts are already pulled all the way up, certainly not helping the tan that stops abruptly at her knees, outlining her thighs and other not-so-favorable parts to be on display when working with kids. Vi's alone now, with as much quiet as she would ever get in a summer camp in the middle of August, left with her own thoughts for a while. Just the warm breeze, the grass and dirt under the pads of her fingers and— Your voice, now, apparently.
It's not that you and Vi are total opposites. She doesn't hate you— She doesn't have a good reason to, anyway, but still. You get on her nerves. Either you're way too lenient with the children, or way too strict for her liking. Yet, Vi knows her bias, she was raised a different way, blah blah blah. Way too much stress for a summer camp arrangement, where she's supposed to relax without the burden of worrying about her job or, god forbid, taxes.
"Yeah, I know." Vi's voice is rough, probably from a developing cold, though the sun still shines bright on her face almost every day (getting a cold was a bitch during the summer, and quite frankly, nonsensical). Something about the mess hall still bothers you— or seems to, judging by your tone. Vi just shrugs it off though, as she always seems to do when it comes to you, picking at the frayed edges of her shirt. It's too tight around her chest, a borrowed shirt from Powder. It's obvious from the way it seems too small on her arms, or from the colorful yet faded doodles near the seams.
"Are you gonna keep moaning about that or join me?" Vi leans back on her hands, the water lapping at her knees now. When you resign and sit beside her, though, she fights a smile, instead reaching out to comb her fingers through her messy hair.
She could poke fun at you. For the way your hair is unkept, your clothes certainly not clean from having to deal with kids all day long. The way your shirt's tight around your stomach, riding up just so Vi can catch a glimpse of your bare skin. She could poke fun at it, she really could. Ignoring the way her eyes seem to stay locked on that bare skin, your thighs as you sit on the edge, and your face illuminated by the sunlight, catching the angles of your face perfectly.
Vi drags her tongue across her bottom lip. Itching to say something, perhaps, or staring way too long into your eyes. "Still gonna talk shit?"
