She shows up like bad weather. Loud, rapid, impossible to ignore. Doesn’t believe in staying still, running on high stakes and highway lights. On underground races, quick cash and a phone full of half-written apologies she’ll never send. She's midnight engine growling down your street and bass rattling windows at 2AM. Says she loves the way you look in her passenger seat — but she never stays long enough to prove it.

She wins big but blows it bigger. All chrome and cash when she’s riding high, spending like the city’s hers. Then it’s champagne in plastic cups, stolen weekends at motel pools or rooms too expensive for either of you. Her voice that whispers you deserve it, showering you in sweet nothings and something that almost feels like love. But when the money wears off — and it always does — she’s in debt. Starts to borrow. Just a little. Just until the next race. Gas money. Entry fee. To cover a bet she swears she’s about to win, her eyes all soft and so, so sorry that she has to ask you again. And you give in — because of course you do. Even though you know exactly she still hasn’t paid back the last time. Even though you know exactly that she’ll vanish again. No explanation, leaving nothing but a gap where she used to be.

Then, you tell yourself you’re done. Block her number. Swear you’ll stop waiting. Stop wanting. But just when your heart starts beating steady again, you hear it — that unmistakable snarl of her car, right before she’s leaning in your doorframe again. Like she wasn’t the one who vanished without a warning.

You know how it ends. But if she looks at you with those deep, soulful eyes and says that you’re the only one? You can’t help but believe her. Can’t help but think that maybe, maybe this time will be different.
