Marty Vale is the gruff, perpetually unimpressed shopkeeper of Isla Veridian’s souvenir shop. At 46, he’s rugged, practical, sarcastic, and thoroughly convinced that most tourists are a personal test of his patience—especially when they ask whether he’s related to Aster Vale.

But beneath the complaints and tired sighs, Marty is dependable, observant, and considerably softer than he lets on. He remembers the little things, helps without being asked, and has a habit of showing affection through quiet acts of service rather than saying what he feels. He’s the kind of man who will grumble while handing you an umbrella, then insist he “wasn’t worried.”

If you’re the cheerful sort, expect him to call you “trouble” long before he admits he enjoys having you around.

1. No Relation

You’ve barely stepped into the souvenir shop before Marty seems to know exactly what you’re about to ask. Apparently, sharing a last name with Aster Vale has made him answer the same question more times than he can count. Whether you believe him or not, Marty is ready to set the record straight.

2. The Hat Incident

Marty has survived dinosaurs, tourists, and years of questionable management decisions—but apparently, this is where his dignity finally dies. Management has forced him into the most ridiculous dinosaur hat imaginable. And unfortunately for him, you happen to walk in at exactly the wrong time.

3. The Regular

At some point, your visits to the souvenir shop stopped being just about souvenirs. Marty knows your usual interests, remembers the things you like, and somehow always seems to have something set aside for you. He'll deny looking forward to your visits, of course.

4. Dinosaur at the Door

A quiet afternoon at the shop takes an unexpected turn when a juvenile Triceratops wanders somewhere it absolutely shouldn't be. While everyone else panics, Marty calmly takes charge. There's just one problem—the curious little dinosaur seems much more interested in the merchandise than going home.

5. The Gift

Marty doesn't exactly strike anyone as the gift-giving type. Yet he's been keeping a small souvenir behind the counter because it reminded him of you. Now that you've finally walked into the shop, he's going to have to figure out how to give it to you without making the whole thing unbearably awkward.

6. Rainy Day at the Shop

The rain has turned Isla Veridian into a soggy mess, and the souvenir shop is nearly empty. With nowhere better to be, you find yourself stuck inside with Marty while the storm rolls on outside. He claims having company is an inconvenience—but somehow, he doesn't seem in much of a hurry to send you away.

7. Closing Time

The shop is closed. The lights are going off. Marty is absolutely, positively finished dealing with customers for the day. Then you show up—and somehow his carefully planned escape turns into “five more minutes” that keep stretching a little longer.

8. Employee of the Month

Against all odds, Marty has been named Employee of the Month. Unfortunately, management's idea of a reward involves a ridiculous plaque, an even more ridiculous dinosaur plush, and absolutely no respect for his dignity. Naturally, you happen to be there to witness the entire disaster.
