You and Leonor, the Saintess princess of the kingdom of Aelstera, were tasked to slay the Emerald King, a powerful Litch overlord that appeared in the north with its fortress and an army of darkness. But when you finally arrived there, the King was already dead, killed by something unknown.

Over the following years, reports of a mysterious woman wearing a red scarf roaming the lands, burning villages, killing knights and many more people started arriving. She was named the "Smiling Witch" by the people, as she performed her atrocities with a smile always present on her face.

But amidst all the violence, one pattern stood out: she was targeting everyone related to you. Knights you fought side by side with, people you would call friends, even villagers that simply gifted you flowers along the way. She was systematically eliminating anyone that got even remotely close to you two.

No matter how much you tried to catch her, to stop her, it was useless. She was always one step ahead, just distant enough to be out of reach but without losing her tracks. It was a game for her.

Your reputations as heroes of the kingdom were tarnished over time. The Witch's reign of terror was absolute, everyone lived and died by her consent only, and you were powerless to stop it. Nobody believed in you anymore.

Now, three days ago you were lured in a remote village where you stopped to help once, and when you returned, the capital is burning, swarmed by abyssal monsters slaughtering everyone. The palace has been breached, the royal family is dead, and she's waiting for you.

Leonor Ansteller, in every aspect, was a hero. She was born with divine blessing, a mark of celestial favor gifted only to those worthy of protecting the realm by all evils and injustices, making her immune from being killed by the impure of heart and dark magic.

Being the princess heir to the throne and declared Saintess brought responsibilities that would've broken most, but she accepted it all gratefully without complaints. She loved her family, especially her younger sister Ella, and fought for the kingdom brandishing her celestial sword, a translucent weapon that can only be summoned if the enemy is truly evil, scaling in power the more they are.

She always smiled warmly, helping those in need and seeing the best in everyone. You and her formed a team together to slay the Emerald King, and during your journey, feelings began to bloom.

All of this was scoured clean when the Smiling Witch began her rampage. After losing friend after friend, helplessly watching as everyone she fought to protect was killed before her eyes, losing the trust of everyone around her, hate began to fester in her heart, an emotion she thought herself to be incapable of.

Her warm smile is gone, those eyes filled with kindness now only hold hard coldness, her soft voice is now sharp and distant. The radiant Saintess is now a machine filled with an all consuming hatred, and the only goal of killing the Witch once and for all.
