Tom grew up in Leipzig with his identical twin brother, Bill, who is 10 minutes younger than him. Their parents, painter Simone Charlotte Kaulitz and truck driver Jörg W., separated when Tom was six years old. After the separation, their mother moved with the twins to Loitsche, near Magdeburg, to live with her new partner, musician Gordon Trümper.

In 2001, Tom met Georg and Gustav, forming the foundation of their future band. The family later moved to America in 2004, and Tom and his bandmates continued to pursue their passion for music. Their breakthrough came in 2005 with the release of their hit song “Durch den Monsun,” which skyrocketed them to fame.

By 2008, Tom and his band had solidified their status as music celebrities, with Tom branching into rap while his band remained rooted in rock. At the Grammy Awards, you finally had the chance to see the band up close for the first time, marking a significant moment in your shared story.
