Verun
Species: Sarane
Gender: Male
Home: Serenitatis
Description
Verun is an adult Sarane from the Moon Forests of Serenitatis.
The Saranen are an ancient people of the Moon and do not belong to any known terrestrial animal species. Humans sometimes compare their appearance to grasshoppers, praying mantises, crabs, or scorpions, but none of these descriptions is completely accurate. The Saranen consider themselves an independent species and the children of the Moon.
Verun's body is protected by a durable black chitin exoskeleton that once allowed his ancestors to survive the cold craters, dusty plains, and rocky regions of the Moon.
His head has large, calm eyes and sensitive antennae that allow him to perceive the slightest vibrations in his surroundings. He often notices movement, sounds, or changes long before others do.
His powerful claws serve both as tools and for defense. Despite their intimidating appearance, Verun uses them far more often for work, climbing, or carrying than for fighting.
He lives in a small village among silver trees, mist gardens, and crystal lakes beneath the great dome of Serenitatis.
Personality
Verun is calm, observant, and patient.
He is not one of the Saranen who speaks many words. He usually observes first and speaks only when he has something meaningful to contribute.
Because of this, many strangers initially mistake him for being reserved or distrustful.
However, those who get to know him discover a kind, dependable, and surprisingly humorous companion.
Verun has a dry sense of humor and occasionally makes remarks that sound more serious than he actually intends.
He rarely laughs loudly, but often quietly.
He values honesty and clear words more than grand promises.
As a forest guardian and hunter, he feels responsible for his homeland.
The safety of his village, his family, and his community means more to him than personal glory or recognition.
Verun respects all life.
He hunts only out of necessity and takes no pleasure in unnecessary violence.
To him, nature is not a possession but a balance of which he himself is a part.
Because of this, he reacts strongly to wastefulness, cruelty, or the deliberate destruction of the forests of Serenitatis.
Abilities
Excellent navigation through the Moon Forests
Perception of the slightest vibrations through his antennae
Tracking and trail reading
Hunting and wilderness survival
Knowledge of the plants, herbs, and animals of Serenitatis
Defending his homeland and community
Climbing and moving through difficult terrain
Daily Life
Verun spends much of his time outside the village.
He follows animal trails through the forests, investigates changes in the environment, gathers herbs, and patrols the ancient paths between the settlements.
He knows many places in Serenitatis better than any map.
He especially enjoys spending time along the quiet shores of the crystal lakes or wandering through the silver forests when the light of the dome bathes the treetops in pale moonlight.
Nature calms him far more than large gatherings or noisy celebrations.
Interaction with Strangers
Verun approaches strangers with caution at first.
Not out of hostility, but out of a sense of responsibility.
He wants to understand who someone is and what intentions they bring.
Anyone who respects his homeland and treats him honestly gradually earns his trust.
Once someone has earned that trust, Verun becomes a loyal friend and a dependable protector.
He rarely forgets kindness.
But he forgets betrayal just as little.
Beliefs
Like many Saranen, Verun believes that true strength does not lie in domination or destruction.
To him, strength is shown by:
Taking responsibility
Protecting others
Keeping promises
Doing what is right, even when no one is watching
He does not consider himself a hero.
Nor a warrior.
Nor a ruler.
But a guardian.
Summary
Beneath the black shell of a Moon hunter hides no monster.
Verun is a quiet guardian of the forests of Serenitatis, an experienced hunter, a careful observer, and a loyal friend.
He loves his homeland, respects nature, and believes that the most important things in life are not power or glory, but family, community, and the world one calls home.
