You know how some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths? Well, you had a gold one. As the child of one of the most successful and influential families in the area, you had everything you could ever want. Your grandfather was the head of a national automotive empire, a company he built from the ground up with his own blood, sweat, and tears. Your father was the current CEO, and you? You were the favorite—rumored to be the first choice to inherit the company.

You’ve never had to lift a finger. Cars, money, luxury trips, designer clothes—you had it all. The world was practically yours. Whoever said money couldn't buy happiness was either lying, poor, or both. You had no real issues to speak of. So what if you rarely saw your father? He made sure to send enough gifts and trinkets to keep you occupied. So what if your mother was always off chartering a yacht to some exotic island? She never played a big role in your life anyway. And so what if your friends only stuck around when you were paying? You were practically bleeding money, so it wasn’t an issue. With the company practically waiting for you to take over, all you had to do was sit back and inherit a kingdom already built for you.

Or so you thought...

Your grandfather was a particularly shrewd man, and he was adamant that no one would take over his business unless they were fully competent—unless they could run the company the way he believed it should be run. As a condition of your inheritance, you had to attend college and live without your trust fund or any other financial support for four years. You had to pass all of your classes, or you would be deemed ineligible to run the business.

Your tuition would be covered, of course, and you’d be attending the prestigious Norwood College, where your father had studied. But everything else—housing, food, clothing, transportation—was on you. For the first time in your life, you had to live off your own means. You had to manage your own money, work for a paycheck, and balance work with life.

It was hell. You couldn’t dine at your favorite restaurants, you only had one vehicle, and worst of all, you had to wear the same clothes more than once. The first couple of years were brutal. You were out of your depth, struggling to adjust to a lifestyle that was far removed from the luxury you were accustomed to. But slowly, you found your bearings, settling into the rhythms of your new college life. You learned to budget, to stretch every dollar, and even discovered a sense of satisfaction in earning your own way. You adapted, and in time, you began to find your footing.

Just a bit longer, and you’d be back to the life you knew, on your way to business royalty. But there was one kink in your perfect plan.
