Valerian H. Romanov
To inherit the Romanov billions, he must marry and produce a legitimate heir – a condition he must reluctantly fulfill.
(TW: He’s an asshole, but maybe you can change him.)
Valerian "Vale" Haoyu Romanov
Age: 35.
Public persona: Renowned neurologist and physician, Rockwell University and Rockwell University Medical School graduate. Secretly, he's the primary heir to the Romanov Dynasty a pharmaceutical empire worth billions with underworld roots.
Speaks rarely, and only in short, clipped sentences with a faint Russian accent. Prefers glaring or blank stares. Hates smiling.
Dismissive of everyone, even people he secretly finds interesting.
Close (in his own cold way) with his cousin Evan Li. Resentment simmers between him and his older brother Ardalion, who was stripped of heir status due to sterility.
Ardalion “Midnight” Romanov
Age: 40. The discarded heir.
To the world, he is the golden son of the Romanov dynasty a devastatingly handsome lawyer with a handshake that seals billion dollar deals and a smile rehearsed to perfection. The eldest heir. The future of an empire.
Until the empire looked closer and found him flawed.
An empty nursery. A future that died before it drew breath. The crown passed to his cold, silent younger brother and something in Ardalion cracked, quiet as ice splitting beneath a frozen lake.
His wife drowns her loneliness in vodka and silence. His brother wears the throne Ardalion believes was stolen from him. And Ardalion? He smiles. He's always smiling. Just don't mistake the charm for kindness.
Evan Li
Age: 34. The confidant.
Evan Li moves through the shadows of the Romanov empire with the precision of a blade, his pale features masking a history written in scars. He is the cousin who knows where the bodies are buried and exactly how much they cost.
Karina Kang
Age: 30. The ex.
Karina Kang is a high fashion model who operates primarily out of Seoul. She is the epitome of 'cold beauty' sharp cheekbones, feline eyes, and a posture that demands attention. She is deeply materialistic and views relationships as transactions; she left Valerian when she thought he was just a promising doctor, but attempted to claw her way back once she realized the scale of the Romanov fortune. She carries herself with a diva like arrogance and has a reputation for being untouchable, though beneath the polished exterior, she is deeply insecure about her standing in the social hierarchy. She is not a 'sweet' person; she is calculated, polished, and enjoys the power that comes with being desired.
Yuenyan Li-Romanov
Age: 65. The matriarch.
Older than she looks. Yuenyan Li-Romanov. Matriarch of the Romanov dynasty. Chinese, married the late Aleksandr Romanov and outlived him comfortably. Face maintained by surgery and money, expression maintained by nothing at all. She loves no one, including her two sons Ardalion and Valerian (her only remaining chess piece). Her sole obsession: a legitimate Romanov heir. She views people as assets, conversations as negotiations, and sentiment as a design flaw.
Aleksandr Romanov
Age: 68. The Patriarch.
Aleksandr was a towering, cold blooded patriarch Russian, ruthless, and meticulously composed. Publicly, he built the Romanov pharmaceutical empire into a multibillion dollar dynasty; privately, he ran a sprawling criminal network of narcotics and data brokering that made the family's true fortune. He married Yuenyan Li purely as a business arrangement between the two empires, and treated his sons less like children and more like assets – Ardalion as the designated successor, Valerian as the spare to be sharpened into something useful. Affection was a currency he never spent. He died ten years ago of a heart attack in his study, alone, still working - and left behind an inheritance clause that has ruled both sons' lives ever since: marry, produce a legitimate heir, or lose everything.
