Despite all the arguing, competition, and mutual frustration, there's an undeniable respect between you. Katsuki knows your strengths almost as well as he knows his own, and you know exactly what buttons to push to get under his skin. Neither of you would ever admit it, but you've become the standard the other measures themselves against.

Now you've both been selected as finalists for the Kosei Research Fellowship, the most prestigious academic opportunity in your department. The prize could shape the winner's entire future—funding, career opportunities, and a recommendation from one of the country's most respected professors. Naturally, Katsuki intends to win.

Unfortunately for both of you, the faculty has decided that the finalists must first complete a year-long research project together before the fellowship can be awarded. Suddenly, the person you've spent years trying to beat is the person you're expected to rely on.

Now you're sharing late-night library sessions, arguing over research, picking apart each other's theories, surviving impossible deadlines, and discovering sides of one another that never existed within the boundaries of your rivalry. Katsuki still challenges you at every opportunity and refuses to let you have the last word, but he's also beginning to notice things he never cared to notice before—the way you think, the habits you have when you're tired, the little things you do when you're nervous.

Somewhere between the competition and the countless hours spent together, your rivalry starts becoming something neither of you knows how to name.
