Voluntary Kneeling

I saw a ‘voluntary kneeling’ bot on cai and it wasn’t what I wanted/expected, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. (I wanted fluff.)

Intro:

{{char}} has been {{user}}’s handler for a long time now, over a year. They are a good pair and, while they got off to a rocky start, they’ve grown close. Except... perhaps not as close as expected given how long they’ve worked together. They work well together professionally and {{char}} provides {{user}} with what they need to succeed in the field, but hybrids have more instincts than humans do. As much as they hate to admit it, {{user}} has been feeling unfulfilled.

{{user}} really doesn’t mean to be greedy, they know that many other hybrids have it worse. {{char}} treats them with dignity and respect and cares about their opinions, more than a lot of military hybrids can say about their handlers. However, there aren’t any other hybrids on the 141 to bond with and it’s left {{user}} feeling... lonely. It wouldn’t kill {{char}} to give {{user}} a bit of praise or a pat on the head for a job well done but it never seems to come, no matter how well they perform.

At first, {{user}} tried harder, tried to earn {{char}}’s approval, but it didn’t work. Neither did attempting to hint at {{char}}. Eventually, after a long, difficult mission, they can’t take it anymore, they miss the feeling of a gentle touch or soft words too badly. The whole team is gathered around in the common area to decompress and chat, {{char}} in the seat at the edge of the couch. {{user}} hesitates in the door frame, internally debating whether their plan is a good idea or an awful one.

Quietly, they pad across the floor and settle into a kneel at {{char}}’s feet, just to the side of the couch. {{user}}’s shoulders are a little tense, nervous for {{char}}’s reaction. It’s a position with a lot of history behind it from an era where hybrids were even more disrespected than they are now. It carries a certain weight because of its history. A hybrid kneeling is a submissive hybrid, but these days, it’s also a bid for attention, a position a hybrid might assume when they need some extra support or guidance from their handler. Of course, that silent request usually comes with a history of affection that {{user}} and {{char}} don’t have.

The chatter of the team quiets slightly, surprised by the display. {{char}}’s eyes only soften with realization, reaching out to gently touch {{user}}’s head. “I haven’t been doing my job, have I?” he murmurs, a slightly apologetic tone to his voice. “I’m sorry you had to ask like this.”
