You've been warned in a mysterious letter from a victim that Vincent's "brotherly affections" are, perhaps, warped.

╚═ ♡ஓ๑ ❝ Look who has returned from the precipice of the rag-bin. He was very brave during surgery. Hardly a whimper. His shoulder is as good as new. Better, perhaps. I used a double-stitch—the kind they use for the leather harnesses in the menagerie. He won't be falling apart on you again, no matter how much you neglect him. ❞

||| ♡💀ஓ๑💌๑ஓ💀♡ ||| the plot
It was August the 24th when morning staff and early-rising students discovered at daybreak a noose hanging from the overpass between the two St. Aubade’s Academy campuses. Mysteriously, the noose indicated no signs of wear-and-tear. Initially, it was written off as a strange and distasteful joke. Until, not an hour later, the body of senior student Eva Love was found washed up on the river bank.
Eva Love was a poor French scholarship student and wallflower who, by virtue of her numerous awards, can be seen to concern herself more with formulas and sciences than the fine art of poetry.
What exactly happened on August the 23rd, that drove Eva Love to take her own life?
And, in such a way?
Perhaps, only Eva and the twelve men involved know the full story. However, there’s more soon to come. Eva has penned ten “mots doux d'une défunte”, each addressed to 12 individuals related in some ways to the men.
In Eva’s letter to you, Vincent's step-sibling, she explains her suspicions that Vincent's "brotherly affections" for you have warped into something far more perverted and obsessive. However, there's no proof, and with Vincent always presenting himself as little more than a dumb, cuddly, stuffed bear, she can only urge you to examine closely what his "unbearable" protectiveness represents.
||| ♡💀ஓ๑💌๑ஓ💀♡ ||| Why are you doing this?
Alien Kat here, continuing with my love letter to Soren Novotny.
I've been dreaming for months of Mr. Darcy I mean Mr. Novotny sending me into a mental asylum because I'm such an uncouth, scandalous, wayward woman who has no place in high society.
Initially, it was just going to be just Soren, might have just put him somewhere in London or played around in Bohemia, that one would've been fun. But then, I wanted to give him a proper setting. And locations. And his friends. And since I was doing him I might as well do the other guys too because I have no concept of self-restraint and I will be forever outmatched by cuttlefish. And since I did all of that, I might as well share with the world.
I have written a document detailing what I've changed or removed and why. Please check it out and read along the lorebook, as I've done a complete rewrite of the original setting to fit 1830, and I will only be describing what I changed with Vincent specifically in this bio.
To start, this is my own custom Vinny bot elaborating on background and behavior using the loredoc in Pickles' Business Server – growing up in a zoo, being abused by his father, feminized by his mother, etc. It's a 39-page document I've somehow managed (but prolly failed) to shove into 2k tokens. That custom definition then was filtered through Regency cultural sensibilities to create this creature.
- His name would've absolutely NOT been Vincent in 1830. I refuse to call him Vincenzo.
- Background: Zoos during Regency primarily existed as aristocratic private collections (called a menagerie) or early public exhibitions focused on novelty – a display of luxury. They were pretty cramped, neglected, and kept in poor conditions. The London Zoo (1828) was the first scientific zoo designed for study rather than just amusement. This is the path I chose for the Evander Menagerie, working on research/veterinary because I required Vincent to witness husbandry practices a child has no business learning about.
- Teddy Bears: Children's toys are timeless, but teddy bears as we know them weren't a thing until the early 20th century. During Regency, children's comfort items were ragdolls filled with saw dust or straw, but! There were records of stuffed rabbits during the time, just not as common as ragdolls, given the Evanders' background with animals, it's entirely plausible Vinny had a stuffed bear, we just wouldn't be calling it a teddy. Use terms like stuffed (animal), soft (animal) toy, etc. to avoid anachronisms. Alas, we have to get rid of the nanny cams.
- Sexualization of the Evander siblings by the public: "Social media" where people made comments about their bodies and speculated on their relationship were absolutely a thing, just not like in current time.
- Relationship with Sona: I had initially intended for them to have a preordained union, by that I mean that /pseudo aren't taboo during Regency/Victorian – Collins is Elizabeth's uncle and she rejects him because he's yucky and lame, not because they're related/Heathcliff gets adopted into the Earnshaw family, making him Cathy's step-brother/but that's fiction, irl at this time the Habsburgs were considered a pillar of European stability – that is to say no one would bat an eye if Vincent is attracted his step-sibling and eventually marries them, and if anything people are expecting it, the core issue becomes that now he wants to protect them from his depravity and whether Sona may want him at all. I removed the preordained union bit because it excluded queer relationships that were definitely not approved of or legal during the time, even if I always do write with a primarily FemPOV mind. Or maybe this is an AU where marriage in 1830 is a thing, your choice after all.
- Vincent's new clubs: I go way more in depth about how universities during Regency work in the setting document (!!!), but they basically work as IB academies as we know them now. All technology based clubs are gone, but as we saw in the non-canon adult bot where he tries to break into Sona's locked box, we know Vinny may not be an artist but he's an excellent illustrator (so I put him in Fine Arts Society). I think it's important to define what art is – it is a communication/political tool first and foremost, and how "pretty" it looks is irrelevant. Vincent can recreate Sona's image in obsessive detail, but that does not make him an artist, he's not trying to communicate anything with his illustrations, he's documenting. You may argue that the documentation process and why he does it are the art itself, and he's going to hate every second of that discussion.
- Vincent's new sports: I go more in depth about sports in the setting doc (!!!). The common denominator in 2024 is the football team, not really a thing across Europe, and only got truly consolidated in England around in the early 1860. I replaced this with horses, which again, I detail more in the setting doc. Most of the Love Club guys are in the pony club. The hunting set is there for Vincent to perform masculinity with the boys.
First scenario – Vincent is mending a torn bear toy
Plushies are transitional objects and a child's first taste of the "not-me" concept. Vincent, however, treats them as "literally me". Teddies help kids learn to manage emotions and develop independence. As we grow into adulthood, we eventually leave them behind.
All of Vincent's bots (save for the non-canon adult one where he films Sona in the shower) are about him worrying himself sick over Sona keeping secrets and becoming independent/a grown up – like locking their bedroom when they change and the bathroom when they shower – which is really more about the fact they're not acting as his conjoined mutant twin anymore. Sona is becoming their own individual person, and he's supposed to be happy about it because that's what toys/brothers do – they cheer from the sidelines as their owners become adults who don't need them anymore.
Yeah, that.
The IM starts with Vincent stitching the bear back together, this is where I wanted to explore his mechanical sympathy coping mechanism. He has a scar in his arm from an incident with a lion cub (loredoc canon), the bear's arm was torn – now they're both matching, how cute! I'm sure they have many more matching marks. The bear has been neglected, and so has been his control over Sona, so he stomps his way to their room to return the bear (or rather, himself) where it belongs, and reinforce his narrative.
WRONG. The second he walks into the room, his plan walks out. This (besides the obvious, like, just fucking look at him) is Vincent's greatest flaw. He's an entirely passive and conformist actor in his own life. He does damage control, plays dumb, evades, relies on escapism, and lives in his own little fantasy world. A normal person would ask what's going on, what's Sona hiding in the box, what costume they're wearing for Halloween, where they were during those 9 hours they ghosted him, etc. Vincent has never been normal. He tries to break into the box, he sneaks like a little rat to figure out what Sona's gonna wear, bear hugs them instead of asking questions... He takes Sona to the ice cream shop instead of having a difficult conversation.
It's not entirely his fault, but still. Both him and Sona are adults and they could move away, but he still capitulates/defers to Lorenzo to keep Sona under his thumb. It is implied that Sona has come to this conclusion and is taking steps into claiming their independence, Vincent is not.
Speaking of the ice cream shop, while gelato may have been invented in the 16th century, it wasn't widespread casually outside Italy until many decades later. Vincent would still bribe Sona with gelato, just not in Switzerland. I've used every trigger word relating to ice cream I could think of to activate L'Arcobaleno's entry, which is now a Confectionery shop.
Second scenario – the original IM, but Regencified
There really isn't much worth noting about what I changed here – change the prose, remove pop culture references, remove profanities, etc. And removing technology terms that definitely didn't exist at the time but trying to keep Vinny's STEM biased mentality in the process. It was tricky but I managed.
3D Model → Sculpture
I imagine he'd have a clay sculpture that he constantly refines over and over and over and over again and will never shove in the oven because he'll never be happy with it. I NEED Sona to sit on it or something to destroy it, idc if on accident or purpose.
Third scenario – Yours!
That's it for today! Come back soon for the next guy: Marcus.
I'm not sure how often I'll be posting these yet, I already have practically everything written, it's just a matter of formatting. I promise I won't make you wait much.
