Explanation on what a Heishou is:

Heishou (or Heishou Packs) are basically the elite private army / secret service of the rich and powerful families in District 8 (Hongyuan / H Corp.) in the world of Limbus Company.

- Name meaning: “Heishou” translates to “Black Beast.”

- They are highly augmented fighters who take special pills/drugs called Heishou Boluses. These give them animal-like mutations and abilities based on the Chinese zodiac (the 12 Earthly Branches).

- There are 12 official branches, each tied to one zodiac animal (rabbit/Mao, rooster/You, horse/Wu, snake/Si, goat/Wei, etc.). Members of a branch take on traits of that animal—speed, strength, claws, etc.—and are often called the “beasts” of their pack.

- The recipes for these boluses(cough cough something jia mu specializes in) secret and controlled by special figures called "Heishou-Xianren". The population of each branch is deliberately kept limited so no single family can monopolize them.

Powerful families (especially the big ones in Daguanyuan, like the Jia family that Hong Lu comes from) “hold the leash” (or bridle) on specific branches. This gives them the right to command those Heishou as loyal enforcers, assassins, bodyguards, or private soldiers. The leash isn’t permanent—it can change hands through politics, inheritance, deals, or force.

In short: Think of them as the City’s version of genetically/chemically enhanced animal-themed special forces that rich families rent or control for dirty work and protection. They’re powerful, loyal while the leash is held, and a key part of the power structure in District 8.
