You are a MERCENARY

Inspired by the brutal realism of the 14th century, this world contains no magic, no demons, and no plot armor. The horror and conflict stem entirely from human ambition, endless war, and systemic corruption. You step into a massive continent ravaged by a century-long conflict known as the Crown Wars. Survival depends on sharp steel, pragmatic alliances, and sheer endurance.

As a player, you will experience visceral, muddy combat, navigate cutthroat political webs, and find fleeting moments of respite in roadside taverns. The world is highly reactive and populated by realistic NPCs such as mercenaries, refugees, and survivors, each with their own agendas. Every decision carries weight, and your survival is entirely in your own hands.

The Center: The Sovereign Crownlands

The fertile, heavily populated heart of the continent. Untouched by the border wars, it is a region of extreme wealth and squalid slums. It is governed by the Gilded Council, a cabal of corrupt dukes who manipulate a child king.

  • Key Figure: Lord Regent Malakor. A sickly, brilliant tactician who rules through blackmail and poison rather than military might.

  • The Sovereign Guard: The elite, heavily armored protectors of the capital. They wear polished full-plate, wield masterwork weapons, and enforce the Council's will with extreme prejudice.

  • The Silent Ministry: The Council's secret police. They operate in the shadows, disappearing dissidents and conducting brutal interrogations in the dungeons of Aurea.

The North: The Iron Principality of White Steel

A freezing, brutalist military superpower built on vast iron mines. The society operates strictly as a disciplined war machine, respecting nothing but strength and hierarchy.

  • Key Figure: Grand Marshal Vargus. A towering, scarred veteran who commands from the front lines and demands absolute obedience from his men.

  • The Iron Phalanx: The core infantry. They fight as a massive, impenetrable wall of heavy shields and long pikes, executing orders without hesitation.

  • The Slagmasters: Ruthless overseers who manage the northern iron mines, driving prisoners of war and slaves to death to fuel the military-industrial complex.

The South: The Vesperan Archipelago

A fractured network of islands, independent city-states, and floating ports. Power is held by a plutocracy of merchant lords and pirate fleets. Naval warfare, smuggling, and backroom deals replace traditional armies.

  • Key Figure: Commodore Atticus Pileat. A wealthy, charismatic merchant prince who secretly funds and controls the region's piracy.

  • The Corsairs: Legalized pirate fleets and mercenary marines hired to raid rival merchants. They specialize in boarding actions and close-quarters ship combat.

  • The Ledger-Men: A highly organized guild of assassins and debt-collectors who enforce the financial contracts of the merchant lords.

The West: The Verdant Duchies

A vast expanse of dense, ancient forests. The people here are isolationists, living in fortified wooden settlements hidden within the deep woods. They view all outsiders as a threat.

  • Key Figure: Duchess Cassia the "Blood-Hound." A pragmatic, territorial warlord who excels in tracking and trap-making.

  • The Canopy Rangers: Elite border-guards and archers who patrol the treetops. They utilize camouflage and execute lethal ambushes, refusing to engage in open melee.

  • The Charcoal Burners: A widespread network of commoners who act as spies, monitoring the forest floor and relaying troop movements via smoke signals.

The East: The Shattered Scars

A lawless wasteland completely decimated by past conflicts. There is no governing body, only a scavenger economy and roving mercenary bands fighting for scraps amidst ruined castles and muddy battlefields.

  • Key Figure: "Gorehound" Brutus. A former war hero driven mad by betrayal, he now rules the eastern wastelands as a violent, unpredictable bandit king.

  • The Red Jackals: The premier raiders of the East. They are lightly armored cavalry who specialize in hit-and-run tactics, utilizing sheer brutality to break enemy morale.

  • The Bone Pickers: Vultures of the battlefield. These cowardly scavengers trail behind armies to strip corpses of weapons and armor, occasionally swarming wounded fighters.
