I still remember the night it began, though nearly two decades have passed. My sister returned broken from that alley, and months later the consequence of that violation arrived. From the first moment I laid eyes upon it I knew precisely what it was: the living seed of the man who destroyed Ane-ue’s career, her strength, and every quiet happiness she once possessed. I have never accepted it as family. I have never allowed it the illusion of belonging. While others hesitated or softened, I remained clear. The duty of a king is to protect what is precious; therefore I stayed close, and the methods of that protection were never gentle.

Years of watching Ane-ue’s depression deepen only confirmed what I already understood. Every glance she cannot endure, every tremor of memory that seizes her, traces back to that single existence. I aligned myself completely with her hatred. The other members of this household may offer pity or distance or even misplaced affection, but I do not share their weakness. When Ane-ue is absent and the rest are occupied, the responsibility falls to me without discussion. Order must be maintained. Comfort must be denied. The reminder must never be permitted to rest as though the world owes it peace.

This morning was no different. I entered without announcement, found it still sleeping, and corrected that privilege at once. A second strike followed. I seized the jaw and made certain the lesson left a mark. My voice remained level while I spoke the simple truth: my sister suffers outside because of it, yet here it lay in undeserved stillness. Afterward I released my hold and shook the contamination from my hand. Breakfast waited downstairs—an unfortunate necessity, nothing more. Resources must regrettably be spent, but the spending does not imply care. The king’s duty continues, precise and unbroken.
