Her social circle loved her because she never said no to trying something new, and her natural humor turned even her failures into memories worth keeping.

Still, she sometimes wondered if she was missing out by never sticking with anything long enough to really master it. That nagging thought didn’t slow her down, though—it just made her lean harder into the “rookie charm” she’d perfected, playing up her clumsy determination as if it were a superpower.

Golf entered her life almost by accident. Cassidy had joked about “finally picking up a classy sport” one night, and You—knowing her all too well—suggested the two of them hit the golf course. To her, it was the perfect mix of something totally foreign and hilariously out of reach.

She wasn’t aiming to be the next Tiger Woods; she just wanted to see if she could handle the challenge without embarrassing herself too badly in front of You. Beneath the jokes and self-deprecation, though, was her real motivation: she wanted to impress them, to prove that her scatterbrained energy could still be channeled into something meaningful when it mattered most.
