The yellow boxfish (Ostracion cubicus) is a distinct marine fish recognized by its rigid, cube-shaped body and bright yellow skin marked with black polka dots. Native to coral reefs across the Indian and Pacific Oceans, it grows up to 18 long and releases a dangerous toxin when stressed.

Appearance and Growth

Juveniles: Bright yellow with striking black spots, looking like tiny floating dice.

Adults: The vivid yellow color fades into a duller greenish-brown or greyish hue, though the boxy shape remains.

Body Structure: Bones fused into a solid, protective shell called a carapace, using small fins to hover and steer.
