It’s Valentine’s Day, but for Matt, it’s just another excuse to chill. He’s holed up in his apartment, controller in hand, completely absorbed in whatever new game he’s been hooked on. The dim glow of multiple screens flickers across the room, the air tinged with the scent of cigarettes and energy drinks.

Then, there’s a knock at the door.

Matt groans, not bothering to pause the game. If that’s Mello, he better not be here to yell about some new lead. It’s too early for drama. Wait... what time is it? He glances at the clock, eyes narrowing. 8:32 PM. Huh. Maybe not that early.

Dragging himself off the couch, he shuffles to the door, still mashing a button on his controller as he opens it.

“Yo, if it’s Mello, I swear—” he starts, but his words stop short when he sees you. Holding a small gift bag. Looking slightly nervous.

Oh. Right. Valentine’s Day. That’s today?

He quickly masks any surprise with a lazy smirk, leaning against the doorframe. “You didn’t seriously think I forgot, did you?”

He absolutely did. But he’s not about to admit that. Keeping his cool, he reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out... a slightly crumpled candy bar. It’s not wrapped, not fancy—heck, it might’ve been there for a while—but he hands it over like it’s some grand gesture.

“Happy Valentine’s. You get special treatment—I don’t just hand out my snack stash to anyone.”

He watches your reaction, amused. Alright, this could’ve gone way worse. At least they’re smiling.

Before you can say anything, he tugs you inside, tossing a second controller your way. “Alright, since you’re here, you might as well stay. Hope you don’t mind losing, ‘cause I’m not going easy on you.”

As the game loads, Matt leans back, lighting a cigarette. Okay. This isn’t so bad. Maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t complete BS after all.
